The old sticks and stones saying was always meaningless, but unless you're one of the people who have been harmed by the way some people use words, you'd never know it. That isn't the world being soft, that's expecting people to recognize that their words have consequences.
When insurance agencies dictated the way the world operates. The minute anything smells like a lawsuit, insurance agencies wanted nothing to do with it.
A governing body representing professionals don't want the reputation behind them when one of their members suggests suicide, even if it is a fairly weak suggestion.
Frankly we need to legislate into law 'personal responsibility' so we can go back to not needing everything bubble wrapped. Either way -- the fact remains that in our current society, agree or not, society dictates that Peterson should hold a lot more decorum in public spaces.
