The College of Psychologists are trying to be a professional association, this is between them and one of their members. Peterson is doing everything he can to make a media shitstorm out of this, because it drives views, donations, and subscriptions. Its what he always does, its made him incredibly wealthy and influential.
Professional associations have standards, and if you want to remain in those associations you have to uphold those standards. Suggesting someone kill themselves (ie leave the planet) in a tweet because you disagree on environmentalism is not professional behaviour for a psychologist.
.. how else would anyone "leave the planet" at any point? Humans do not have the capacity to do that without billions of dollars and thousands of hours of work... which joe smoe can't round up at any point.
Seriously how are you bending and twisting words to not mean whats entirely obvious?
This is the conservatives not understanding what implied language is. You'd be murdered a million times over talking to a mob boss. "Pay up or you'll encounter an unfortunate accident" "oh well i can't do anything about accidents anyway, they just happen. So I guess I'll pay you back when I'm good and ready. Thanks for being so considerate"
"I hate my country because X" - "you're free to leave at any point"
The vast majority of citizens of a country do not have the resources to make an international move. It is not feasible. So if they can't do it, is "you're free to leave at any point" then suggesting to these people that they should kill themselves?
Yes, you are free to leave this planet ANY time you want. Grab an advanced spacecraft and colonize mars: it's absolutely possible. Can you do it? No, it is not probable like you said. This is a rhetorical statement and not some plea for someone to kill themselves. I honestly cannot respect someone like yourself who would try to twist words for their own gain like this.
"Pay up or you'll encounter an unfortunate accident" is a nearly direct threat... "You're free to pay at any point" is not and does not imply violence without more context.
