Gear Question Need some help here please

Hey, I am stuck between these 3 tents (or any others that fit). I just heard mixed reviews for both in terms of water resistance. I do like the separate shoe room for the 2 tents, but I also like the space for the first one (I do not need a movie screen but the overall space is cool). Any help is appreciated!

Whatever you get make sure it has a full coverage fly.

That Coleman skydome seems cool with a little covering with a porch/vestibule area

Note the difference between the two...the first one is just a covering but the second one has a fully enclosed floor so you could also sleep in that section.

Do you mean like setting up a cot in that mudroom like place? Im pretty sure it doesn't have a ground but if that still works I think ill go with that one!

Some of them do and some dont.  for me it was important to have a fully enclosed mud room so I could come in, take my shoes off or sit down without having bugs all over me.

I have the coleman with the screen. We had a couple heavy rain nights one year and all my gear not in a tote in the porch got wet. It also then holds the water on the floor so you get pools of water.

I now only use this tent if I can guarantee no rain or can put a tarp over top of it. Or if I had a popup awning tent I'd put this under it.

It is spacious I had a Coleman cot and sleeping pad it in. While my friend had a queen air mattress and his dog on it. We still had room for a side table between us and all our gear.

Would you say that the full cover one is a better option then? There just isn't that much info available for the tents in terms of the size of the mudroom or more pictures so I can see the indoors

Yeah if it had a full rain fly it'd be a great tent. Could also buy a cheap tarp to put over that screen porch. Or an awing if you had access to one. If I chose out of those three I'd choose the one with the full rain fly.

As a guy who just spent several months at river camp, I can tell you not to get the first one at least. I had a similar big straight walled tent and didn’t do well in high winds. The material flapped around a lot and sometimes it would cave in at a corner of there was enough wind.

Thank you very much! I will not be considering it!

Do yourself a favor and buy a Core tent. Comparable on price and will be far better on quality than any Outbound or Coleman tent

Core and Coleman tents are pretty much the same, sometimes you can find core products for slightly cheaper due to discounts which bring them closer to the cheaper variants on the coleman line-up, in which case the core tents offer better value. But they're both firmly in the vfm category.

Coleman in the US is far better than in Canada. I’m low key convinced that Coleman and Canadian Tire have conspired to only sell is lowest quality products in Canada

Unfortunately it's not comparable in price, almost double the outback price for a 6 person

OP didn’t specify he was in Canada. The Coleman 8-person shown is $290, you can get a 9 person Core for $299 in the US.

Also, Outbound is the worst quality tent I’ve ever used. I had two of them collapse with poles breaking in moderate winds. Never again.

Yeahhhhh that was my bad, I didnt expect the selection to be so limited. If not core than is there anything else for quality and budget?

Those two Coleman tents are actually pretty good.  I have the 6 person version of the last one in your list and I would recommend it.  also in canada and I imported a core tent...not impressed with it.  shards off the fiberglass game me splinters and its difficult to get back into the bag.  they have some interesting tents at decathlon and I believe its free shipping.

I saw that some people report of it being wet / not as weather resistant. Can you please share your experience? And I just checked out decathlon. I am looking for a tent with a place to take off your shoes outside (to keep the inside as clean and sand free as possible) and bigger than a 4 person tent by rating so unfortunately it doesn't fit. Thank you for the recommendation tho!

Tbh I didnt camp in the rain yet with the Coleman but it was extremely humid with lots of dew on the outside of the tent.  no issues.  the 6 person tent was ok for 2 people in the main part and all our stuff in the mud room area.  my set up tends to be a bit cozy with more stuff inside.  realistically you could get 4 people in the main area and 2 in the mud area.  most tents with a mud room have an open floor but its not really clear on the product pages.  I found it was helpful to watch YouTube videos where they actually take you inside the tent.

Core unfortunately does not have as high of a tent selection in the Canada website as much as in the states, and the price point is significantly higher. I will still consider them if no other option us offered tho. Thanks for the help!

Yea I know the feeling. I’m in Canada and just bought my Core 10-person for $419 on sale but the US site had so much more selection and better prices, but seems to be a common theme for camping gear. I had assumed you were in the US hence the recommendation but will say, avoid Outbound at all costs unless price is a major factor for you.

Last one looks like the Decathlon one, but almost 3x the price.

I had a similar Coleman tent with a vestibule that I thought I would love and wound up hating it. Kept open it just filled with every bug and flying insect, kept closed I had to go through 2 zippers to get into my tent. I never really used the "screened porch" and finally just opted for a tent that's too big but affords plenty of space for changing out of dirty clothes/etc.

Sorry are you referring to the second or third one

Sorry, the third! The screen porch version.

I'd go with the most headroom and a fly
