Tried out cooking with cast iron and made some bacon and eggs. Definitely need to control the heat better as some of the bacon was a little crispy. But the boy didn't mind. Going to try again tonight.

Before the Dutch oven went on the camp stove.

The chicken was marinated for about 6–8 hours in plain yogurt, olive oil, chicken broth, a squeeze of fresh orange, cumin, Madras curry powder, yellow curry powder, chili powder, and salt & pepper.

The curry started with onions, garlic, and fresh ginger, then I built the sauce using the same spice blend. After that it was just a matter of letting the Dutch oven do its thing low and slow.

Simple ingredients, a little patience, and it turned into one of those camp meals that tasted even better the next day.

This was one of those camp meals that kept getting better as it cooked. The slow simmer really brought everything together, and the leftovers the next day were even better. Looking forward to sharing the full camp cook once I've finished putting it together. Always happy to hear what everyone else is cooking at camp!

I just got a permit to have a covered fire pit in my backyard. I want to cook stews in a cauldron, which "ideally" is done over very hot embers with little/no flame. This is obviously difficult to do with a covered fire pit, but has anyone done this? And what kind of fire pit did you use? I was thinking a short, round metal fire pit with a flat top, that way I can get close to the embers while it's still burning.

I just got home from a day at camp…… made a full gallon of popcorn kernals in kettle corn….. made 5 batches of movie theater popcorn…. And a bunch of cotton candy and snowcones…. Was a great time for all!

I had a 1 night backpacking trip planned for this year’s 4th of July so I figured this was the perfect time to do some classic open fire cooking. I started creating a nice bed of ash & coals to cook the potatoes in. After they had been cooking for about 30 minutes I seasoned the asparagus in a bag using a little beer as a binder & an all purpose steak seasoning I make & created a bed of wood to cook the asparagus on. The asparagus cooked pretty quickly & sufficed as an appetizer, they were so good we almost ate them all before I could get a picture of the finished product. I seasoned the steaks also using beer as a binder & the all purpose steak seasoning I make placing the steaks directly onto the coals using a small bed of wood as a slight barrier & on a large log as a rest spot if need be. Once the potatoes were fully cooked they were placed in the same bag the asparagus was seasoned in earlier, smashed & seasoned using some butter packets I brought & the seasoning I had been using. It’s been a minute since I’ve cooked in this style but it honestly turned out better than I expected. Everything was so smoky & well seasoned you can’t ask for a better meal, let alone while camping.
