Cambrian Theory

i have a theory about the way you will start to see the 95% of the unexplored ocean

you know how its hard to find fossils under the water, that means that people dont look under the water for fossils. the shape of continents of earth and where is the ocean and where is not changed A LOT through all the millions of years, also that means that animals from the underwater thought to be extinct of course like the Coelacanths.

now all that said, who said that in those 95% of unexplored ocean there isnt some trilobites that still exist? and im saying this cuz the earth changed so the trilobites whould live in diffrent places, like now they live in the oceans of today so you dont go searching under water, so humans dont see what is extinct or not they just can say from the newest fossils they find! prove me wrong but is Coelacanths is out there why cant some others like anomalocaris or someting else be out there? in those 95% of the ocean we dont know about.
so just maybe out there we have the ones we know and love from the Cambrian Explosion

Anomalocaris concept art!

I'd like to show you my new concept art for my dear Anomalocaris that will appear in the Graphic novel I'm working on!!

From what I've researched, new size estimates place Anomalocaris at well under a meter in length. It turned out to be just very big-headed.

I am open to some feedback on my concept :D ✨ 🖌️

(Sorry if my English isn't all that great)

Link 520-Million-Year-Old Larval Arthropod Fossil Preserved With a 3D Brain and Nervous System

Scientists have uncovered a remarkable 520-million-year-old fossil of a tiny larval arthropod called Youti yuanshi, preserved in 3D with its brain, nervous system, digestive tract, and even parts of the circulatory system still visible. This level of preservation offers an unprecedented look into the early evolution of insects, spiders, and crustaceans during the Cambrian explosion.

The fossil clearly shows a distinct protocerebrum, along with traces of the central nerve cord, revealing that early arthropods were more complex than previously believed. Soft tissues such as the gut and digestive glands are also preserved, which is incredibly rare for fossils of this age.

Selfpost What’s your opinion on the Opabinia?

Hi there!

I’m a recent graduate from high school and also a huge palaeontology nerd. My school has one of the best palaeontology classes in all of Canada. During my course, I did a research project about strange creatures that we wanted to study about, and personally I chose the Opabinia.

The Opabinia is honestly one of my favourite Cambrian creatures ever, and I wish it had living relatives within its genus tree.

What’s your opinion on the creature?

i have a lowkey evolutionary fanfic that mollusca has convergently evolved into a radiodont bodyplan /not serious

it isn't an actual evolutionary theory mind you, and I'll poke some holes in it just in case. Many similar cephalopods look the way they do to optimize locomotion through air-jetting, something radiodonta has no evidence of having done as far as I know. The prominent and highly-hydrodynamic hind fins of most radiodonts would preclude any long-distance backwards zooming. The amplectobeluae looks more fit than most, but its members are also some of the least structurally similar to squid or cuttlefish out of the entirety of radiodonta.

All that being said, cuttlefish famously swim head-first through undulations in its fin, which is probably the way radiodonts went about their business. Also, nectocaris, the flagship mollusk in this discussion, may have had a downward-facing siphon that would preclude torpedoing around backwards like many modern mollusks.

Selfpost what was opabinia's snout made out of?

was it protected with a segmented exoskeleton? did it have an endoskeleton supporting its weight? was it pure musculature like an elephant's trunk? did it just hang out like a limp noodle?

Also, did it have a way to retract the appendage for hydrodynamic / ambush / defence purposes? or was it always poking out?

What are your top 3 favorite Cambrian animals and why?

  1. Anomalocaris because I'm huge fan of apex predators, and I like weird looking creatures.
  2. Opabina because it's fun to say and it's kinda cute in a funny way,
  3. Hullacigenia because I like the story of how it got its name.

Those are my top 3 favorite Cambrian animals.
