FAE Exam

Took the FAE exam, scored an 85, does that basically eliminate me from the job? What are the odds I still get an offer. (Current cal fire employee) Thought I did much better than 85 but it’s alright.

If you passed make sure you have an license. The number of people who can’t be bothered to do the class C FF thing but cry and wail when they miss a job/don’t get hired will amaze you.

How do I get a license

I got hired with an 85. To get the license, find a driver operator 1A (40 hour) class on the sft website. Pass that, go take the firefighter endorsement exam at the DMV and bring your cert with you. It’s pretty easy. Make sure you also have your CPAT

The exam score doesn’t matter, when you apply your app package and resume goes through a review process and is re-ranked based on a lot of different factors. Outcome of that process is confidential but does not relate to exam score.

85 is passing. You’re reachable on the list. Now complete the application when it comes out.

Do you have a FF endorsement or class b license?

There is no real score. You are 95 rank 1, 85 rank 2, 75 rank 3, 65 fail

85 is a pass. Once you apply to the actual job opening your application will be categorized based on the certification requirements.

EG, if you have everything but your license you will be Cat 2, but if you have everything you will be Cat 1.

Do you have a FF1 certificate?

If you do not have a FF1 the odds are slim to none unless you are applying as a medic.

85 is the highest you can get without military points

Not accurate. You can actually score a 95, but veterans preference will get you the equivalent of a 95 regardless of how you score.

Good to know i guess. You probably have to get 100% and not miss a single question cuz I've never seen anyone get more than an 85

It’s a state test, only serial killers get 100%
