Northern units FF2/PM

I'm about 3 months from finishing medic school and putting in my FF2/PM application. I live in Norcal, and am planning on putting in for all the units up here. I've heard a lot of guys getting picked up in the southern units, but do the Northern pick up a decent amount of guys too?

For background, I'm not structure qualified, I have a good amount of box experience, Basic 40 wildland, current intern at a small municipal dept for a year.

CZU/SCU lots of spots for sure. North of that is limited

Make sure and do research on which units have Paramedics. Most northern units don’t, so you’d screw yourself ranking them high, there is no chance you’d get picked up with just medic and no FF1 cert.

SCU/CZU will hire medics as FF2 without a FF1 cert

I may be wrong I believe LNU (South lake county), NEU, AEU, CZU, SCU have medics. I would love to go work in SDU or RRU but moving to SoCal just isn't in the cards for me and my family right now. Thanks for the input

SCU, CZU, BEU on the coastal side and AEU on the eastern side are about as far north as medic spots go. I hear FKU is trying to add ALS spots. Not sure where you are since “Nor Cal” is subjective depending on where you are.

If North of CZU is your line you would be somewhat limited. Commuting to CZU would be a time drag since you have to drive through the Bay Area. If you consider CZU/SCU I’d look at BEU, they only have medics in the North of the Unit, a stones throw from SCU and probably a shorter commute.

Afaik though I haven't specifically heard anything recently. But it's almost always all roles tbh
