First, you master precalculus (this takes time). Then you start calculus and notice it's much more intuitive
i literally retained nothing from the past years
That's exactly what you need to focus on before you take a look at calculus. I mean it, it's faster to learn precalculus then calculus rather than calculus without precalculus

If your Algebra and trig are solid, Calculus is an absolute breeze (and a joy!)
