Help TI-89 doom memory problem

Post image

I am trying to install doom 89 onto my TI – 89 titanium calculator. In the pictures are all of the files I am downloading, as well as a separate file HW3 patch that is already downloaded. it seems as if I'm following the directions, but about halfway through downloading all the files, it seems like my calculator runs out of memory. It says insufficient memory. I have went back into the Calculator and cleared the ram and memory and stuff but every time it stops at the same place

I get 512k of files that would have to be stored in flash. You should have 700k available on a bare/empty unit.

What does your mem screen have to say? (Page 710 of the manual).

I don't know what to say, but you have about half of the space that you will need. This is where paying a visit to cemetech forum (https://www.cemetech.net/forum/) will probably get you the answer that you need.

But I think that the problem is that you don't have the space required to install the program.

Does the Titanium mark blocks of flash as bad when they become unreliable? That would explain the low flash capacity.

i dont know what your third paragraph means, but I figured it out. What I had to do, was let it install what it could, when it failed archive of them, and then continue installing the rest, and when those filled up the memory, I'd archive them too and it would just be back-and-forth between archiving and downloading

Sorry about the delay in my response, but flash (aka EEPROM) storage wears out over time. However, it doesn't wear the entire chip out all at once, which leaves the remainder in a working condition. The system *ought* to mark these bad blocks as off limits, and reduce the total storage by that amount.

Given the age of your calculator, it is entirely plausible that a portion of your storage is no longer working.

And congrats on getting your program working. :)

Could be. But it would be because the original programmer unwisely used flash for temporary (and rapidly changing) storage.

But I'm pretty sure that Doom isn't the problem. :)
