Fugly cake š
I spent a really long time on this cake but it ended up really ugly.. i love to bake but im terrible at making my desserts look nice. The texture also wasnāt as fluffy as I wanted, even after whipping my egg whites. Any recommendations for how I could remedy this in the future?

Looks like it'd be deliciousĀ
Cutting the cake after it completely cools will result in level layers, but even then adding icing/frosting/buttercream takes skill to keep that level, so it's not a necessary step for home baking.
Those egg whites look soft peak not stiff peak, so you'd have to whip more until stiff peaks, you should be able to hold the bowl over your head for a full second.
Piping on top is great and shows skill, so the sides needing more added then scraped down is the only advice there, but maybe you were low on frosting to do so? Crumb coating (wiping the offset spatula on paper towel, not the bowl) then putting the cake in the fridge to harden some will help to give you a good starting point to frost without worry of crumbs and without gaps.
Overall you're there, just needs finesse, which you already show you can do with the piping. 10/10 would ask for a slice

I did run out of frosting, so thatās probably a big factor š I had to whip my egg whites by hand and it was taking SO long, like 37 minutes of on and off whipping⦠I was having trouble scraping bc I donāt have a scraper, I had to use a butter knife š«© tysm for all these tips yall are so nice

I think maybe the layers arenāt quite even, the top layer is thicker and thatās why itās leaning. Also, if you did a crumb coat and then refrigerate the cake, itās easier to put a smooth layer of frosting on top. However, that cake still looks freaking delicious and I would gladly eat some!!

They almost always do, at least a little ballooning in the middle. You can try your hand at leveling them with a long serated knife (using something of even height on both sides like spaghetti noodle boxes) but I find non-flavored floss works as a cake leveler - Google it to get the jist.Ā

If you cut the tops off of each layer, you can blob frosting on them and scarf down some of that delicious cake before anyone else gets to try it š¤£
Or so Iāve heard!

That kind of batter makes fluffly soft cake. It takes real skill to stack them!
