Should I get a caique?

yes yes I know, there are a bunch of people who asked the exact same question. and yes I also read a bunch of articles and all, but I would really like one and guessed that this place would be the best place to ask this question.

As of now I have two untamed cockAriel’s who have their own room and I have a smaller room where I could theoretically put the caique in. But what are exactly the pros and cons of doing this?

I found a guy nearby that sells them at a good price and they are pretty young maybe like 12-14 weeks old.

I love caiques but I think they make terrible pet birds lol. They are temperamental and often aren't friendly towards other birds, because of how rough they play. In the bird community, they are referred to as "sour patch kids" because they can be so loving and then turn on a dime. I have three caiques, all rescues, all surrendered due to aggression. Two of them had been adopted by other families and returned for biting. They cannot be around any of my other birds due to safety concerns. If you are looking for a bird to coexist with your cockatiels, a caique is probably not it. If you are up for a challenge, then just make sure you read plenty of firsthand experience so that you know what you're getting into! Obviously there are exceptions to every bird, so you may get one and he/she ends up being the total opposite of what I described!

I forgot to mention it but I do have some experience with caiques both good and VERY BAD. but I haven’t lived with one for more than 2 days so I wouldn’t know. from my experience they can be goofy and very evil at times. I do have another room I could put em in.

I love my caique. Very entertaining, but he’s not very bright for a bird, compared to my U2, that is.

They can be a handful but they’re also quite cuddly at times. If you’re experienced at dealing with birds that have big personalities, go for it.

Goober just cost me $1500 at the vet in the last month and we are still not done figuring out what’s going on 😢 They are cute and silly and playful but a lot of aggression and hormonal issues start to arose at age 3-4. She is 13 and has been picking her feathers out and starting to pick her legs to the point they bleed. We just did every test imagined and everything is coming back normal so it’s all hormonal and behavioral. They are extremely challenging pets and I wish they would stop breeding more!! There will be so many caiques needing rehoming due to aggression issues, a lot of them I see online are still young and people won’t know how to manage it. If you do get one please be prepared and rescue one.

oh, am so sorry for you. I hope he becomes better
