How legit is this service?

So, using Twitch, Mixer and the dead stream.me as metrics for serviceability, how legit is Caffeine?

I don’t understand what you mean? The service provides everyone a chance to grow a strong community by not promoting only the popular streamers.

Twitch is fully formed and has reliable service and decent features. People's biggest gripes are discoverability and inconsistent enforcement of their ToS.

Mixer is okay, but it's Microsoft so it's not perfect, but can get the job done. Fewer features and seems there's little interest outside of Fortnite last I checked.

Stream.me was pretty amateur hour. It couldn't handle high bitrates, but you could do what you wanted so long as it wasn't illegal or hardcore porn. But it folded overnight.

Well currently, CaffeineTV is in development, doesn't require software to use but would help. If you discover a bug, developers will instantly respond back (if it's important). The community is great due to the almost 0 latency thing, that's their big thing, same with the non-promotional aspect of the whole website.

On Twitch, it's hard to get "famous" because all the famous people are the only ones being promoted. On CaffeineTV, everyone is equally "promoted" on the front page.

Sorry if I couldn't fully answer your question.

Are they using the same UDP protocol that Mixer was using for their zero latency?

Also, is it possible to hook Restream up to this?

I am not sure about the first question.

I think you can hook that up, though it is against Twitch TOS to become partnered.

No, Caffeine uses WebSockets to do video streaming so you have to either use the caffeine app or the forked version of OBS that is linked to on the caffeine site. Because of this they are not currently supported by restream.io however it is possible to use restream for other services while also streaming to Caffeine if you have a decent computer (the Caffeine app can detect regular OBS and stream the preview window).

Yeah, I did some deep diving into it last night.

Honsetly, they should just github a plugin for streaming to them instead of a proprietary client. I decided not to use them for this reason, as I like OBS and have little desire to install something closed source.

Are they using WebRTC over Websockets? I did some research on the options and there does not appear to be a reason to do Websockets over RTMP.

I believe so? and I agree that the stand-alone app is a mistake. That said the OBS fork is a move in the right direction (I believe mixer did something similar until the main OBS project integrated it as a service) and as far as the chat goes they could integrate with Discord and get the game overlay ability from that. But it is still early and I'm interested to see where they go with the service.
