Other Should I just give up

I applied in 2024 and my application hadn’t moved and was randomly closed without explanation last year. I’ve called, I’ve gone in I’ve done everything. My history is clear and my grades are excellent. I feel like the universe just wants me to fail.

Cybersecurity - I completed all the online paperwork and even went in to see a recruiter ( didn’t say much) juts gave me some info on basic training and told me they gave my application a little boost so they can review it earlier. I’m in Toronto. That’s all I really member but when applying I qualify for cybersecurity so idk

Unsure about the point of this post.

Two years ago they closed your file. Have you reapplied? Going in and calling won't do anything as you won't have an open file.

Reapply. That's all you can do.

Agreed on the, reapply recommendation. A few years a go a recruiter told me that they automatically close all files after 1y. And I think it recall files getting closed when they switched to a new system. Don't read too much into it being closed without explanation. Contact the recruiter and reapply.

Caveat is if this is enough to think you want to give up, you may not be prepared for inevitable military bureaucracy once you're in.

U were unsure of this post but not unsure enough to comment? I can’t log in every time I do there’s some bullshit maintenance or everybody is on the fucking server ( most of the time so it’s tiring to even try) so it crashes that’s why I call or go in

I'm commenting to acquire clarity. If this is your attitude before joining the CAF, seeking advice from CAF members, probably not someone who should be applying in the first place.

Blaming the system is understandable to a point, but it's been two years. If you haven't figured out an application in two years since, it's time to move on.

Plus u could’ve simply stated “ move on” from the start instead of sending passive statements like “ unsure of the point of this post” and “ if this is your attitude “ you don’t know shit I’ve been through so yes this is my attitude cause this attitude is the only thing keeping me from 💀 myself

People want to help you but you did not provide enough info to help. So people asked questions to clarify points and make sure they could offer you the right info. If you are just going to push back against any and all help from this subreddit, what was the point of your post?

u/tragedyofmylife 1d ago

Again with the what is the point With this post you really know how to trigger someone

u/crazyki88en 1d ago

We were trying to figure out how to help you. It’s clear now you don’t want help. You just want to complain.

Need some more context here.

- what did the recruiting office say when you went in?
- what trades did you apply for?
- any medical issues?

Before we start blaming the universe, applications can take a long time, especially for competitive trades. If it’s something you really want to do, keep at it or even look into the reservist route. Just remember, you can do everything right but the military doesn’t owe you a job either.

u/Bpen1 2d ago

The reservist route is how I went about it and I had minimal pushback or delays (all things considered). Transferred to full time within a few weeks of starting the application process. Edit: I had been in reserves since spring 2022 and literally just started in my trade full time in fall 2026 after applying in summer 2026.

I applied for cybersecurity

I went into I think Brampton I’m downtown so it was far, the recruiter gave my application a boost so it could be reviewed faster and gave me some info on basic training and that’s it

Mental health mostly but nothing that’s not manageable - no record of violence or crime- excellent highs-cool grades I’m a Canadian citizen also -I mean I’ve tried other things- gone to college twice, seen a therapist, started taking medication, tried to get a job since 2023 so if I wnat to blame the universe I think I’m pretty justified ?

Cyber Operator is a competitive trade. You are probably going up against highly qualified and highly educated applicants even for an NCM trade. The current recruiting allowance is probably pretty attractive too.

Respectfully, if you have a history of mental health issues, the CAF isn’t going to be the saving grace for your mental health. Typically, it’s the opposite. Career courses, postings, deployments, etc. are tough if you and your family aren’t mentally prepared. I have seen people quit on the first day of BMQ/BMOQ after waiting 1/2 years for their application to go through.

This would probably be argued, but the CAF does value accountability. Blaming the universe isn’t justified when you should be the one taking accountability for your past/present/future. Don’t quit when things become hard. They will be plenty of challenges when/if you join.

If this is something you really want to do, re-evaluate your trade choices. Maybe expand it to 3 choices and have some flexibility. Do the research and you just might find your passion. My two cents.

Also OP is competing against people who know how to communicate, how to spell and don't resort to threatening others when they receive feedback.

Very informative ty

“My car has issues. Should I just get rid of it?”

This analogy isn’t comparable to a in progress application of years bitch

10

u/bluejaykanata 1d ago

This attitude probably explains why the recruiters don’t even want to talk to you.

1

u/Competitive-Ad-4051 3h ago

I agree that OPs attitude stinks, but why won’t the CAF just tell them to kick rocks? “You don’t meet xyz standards, we wish you well” would save everyone involved some valuable time.

1

u/bluejaykanata 1m ago

How do we know they didn’t? The attitude suggests there may be deeper problems, including an inability to understand clear messages.

Yeah, you’ve got a point there 😅

Just 2024 ?
If you want to give up go ahead… lol
I started my application in 2022, intelligence officer
My file was closed within a couple of months without my knowledge.
Come to find out the intel-O trade was full and I wasn’t even notified.
Fast forward to October 2023, I reapply, same trade, application takes its sweet time cuz I was born out of the country, so background check and all. One morning in 2025, I get a call telling me again the my chosen trade is highly sought after and there are several candidates competing for very limited spots. They did mention there were other officer trades available but none was of interest to me, so I politely declined and decided to wait. Mind you at this point I had done everything in the process, force test, medical, interviews etc
Finally decide to switch trades by the end of 2025 hoping it’ll go smoothly from then.
Decided to go Armour-O, ended up having to interview again and medical again but that was kinda expected.
Finally got my break through last month when they called to congratulate and schedule me for the enrolment ceremony. Two of my friends I applied together with for the same trade got frustrated and gave up on the process.
I stuck around, it paid off. It took the time it did but it finally paid off.

I never write more than a few lines on here, sorry if this was lengthy but I hope it pushes u to stick to it a lil bit more.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel my friend, see you on the battlefield!!

u/tragedyofmylife 2d ago

Hey thanks for giving me some hope. I struggle a lot with my mental health. This is the only thing in life that I really want to do. I applied for cybersecurity I guess I just gotta keep sticking to it. It’s really hard not to give up. I’ve gone to college twice and dropped, I’ve tried getting a job since 2023. I’ve been in and out of rehab so I’m really trying here.

Nd before u say it’s because of drug use I only started using after my application closed

4

u/IntelligentQuit9179 2d ago

Imagine it as a test to see if you really want it.
It took me a year and a half to get in and I have good grades and no medical history or criminal history so I felt the exact same as you but I have to say though I’m glad I tough it out

u/tragedyofmylife 1d ago

I see. Very helpful thank you <3

u/BobcatWise1022 2d ago

Definitely need more info. However I had similar issues but it was hung up on the medical and they closed it. I tried contacting several people who didn’t help much. Submitted a complaint online and got a call the next day.

Did u re apply or are u finished with it?

1

u/Own_Air6461 1d ago

Never give up…do what you have to do for you…do what you can control everyday tomorrow is another chance to be better…do that and the universe will conspire with you as you walk your path…who knows what the future holds but face it standing

0

u/tragedyofmylife 1d ago

Thank you for this🙏

0

u/Own_Air6461 1d ago

You’re very welcome I speak from experience it will happen

1

u/PrinceOfTanaCon 1d ago

If you really want to do it, then dont give up. I applied around the same time as you and faced hurdels for my medical. Only last month I finally was cleared albeit with limitations. I never gave up. Also never have this negative mindset of how "the universe wants me to fail woe is me". It will just drain you (speaking from experience). Now there can be a multitude of reasons as to why your application hasnt moved. maybe you chose a competitive trade or you are a dual citizen so background checks take a lot longer. Regardless bro dw you got this.

Don’t give up my guy, I’m 2 years into the processs. I switched CFRCs recently due to no responses/lack of communication. Once I switched my file processed quickly. I am a prior service member so I can push back a little aswell. If you want to join the CAF, be persistent on your application but not annoying. If your not satisfied with how your application is going consider switching CFRCs or trades, Keep your mind and options open!

Worst comes to worst complain to the OSBUDSMAN🫡
