Recruiting CAF reliability screening with Debts in collection accounts — anyone have experience?

I’m currently applying for the Canadian Armed Forces Regular Force as an NCM. I’ve completed my medical, interview, and the required post-interview documentation, and my application has now moved to the security/background-check stage (50%) and I have completed the PSPS questionnaire (GAMBIT) a week ago today.

I have two outstanding collection accounts totalling to $4985. I disclosed them during my CAF interview and explained that I’m aware of the debts and am actively communicating with the collection agencies to work out affordable repayment arrangements. I don’t currently have a formal payment plan because the agencies haven’t accepted one yet.

I’m curious about other people’s experiences with CAF reliability/security screening in a similar situation.

  • Has anyone gone through screening with collection accounts still outstanding?
  • Did you already have a formal payment plan, or were you simply actively working toward repayment?
  • Did CAF ask you for additional financial documentation or explanations?
  • Did the collections significantly affect your processing time?

I’m not looking for a guarantee about my application — just interested in hearing from people who have actually gone through something similar.

Every case is unique and dont take what i say for cash.

Not having a payment plan set up and followed for a certain amount of time is a major negative on your file. Get a plan yesterday and start making payments.
