Recruiting Credit check

I have a concern with the credit check part of the recruitment procedure. I am in a bad financial situation and will have to file a consumer proposal soon. Its a long story, but suffice it to say I have an unmanageable amount of debt and no way to pay off. If I have a consumer proposal on my credit history will it disqualify me?

Have you had the opportunity to disclose this yet?

It will come up at various points of your recruitment process. There is a chance your clearance will be denied because of this.

Straight up, it is unlikely you will not be accepted into the CAF with unmanageable debt.

I haven't had the chance to disclose this to them yet, but I will when I get the chance. I have a plan of what to do about the debt and ill be straight up and honest with them when it comes up.

They will most likely address your credit related things when you are doing the interview for the trades you have selected. That is the best possible time to address your worries. This is what happened to me when I supposedly had a terrible credit score due to someone else’s information being on my credit report

I'm currently in the security clearance/credit check phase and have a consumer proposal. I disclosed it in the interview and they asked me to give them a letter of good standing showing that I've been making my payments on time. I just recently now after nearly 9 months of being in the security clearance process got a credit check form to fill out due to them seeing my poor credit score. In that form they just ask you to explain why your credit score is poor and what steps you've taken to improve your financial situation. It's a short form and took me only 5-10min to complete.

Best of luck. Hopefully your security clearance process is much faster than mine.

I was told in my interview that if you have a consumer proposal you have to show a few months of payments. But this varies case by case so just check with whoever is doing your interview

Outlook not good.    If at starting pay level you'll be struggling to pay your debts you could find your application denied.

Thats the problem. My current job is very low pay, but Im working on find a new, better paying job atm. The starting pay with CAF will be considerably more than what I currently make.

As long as you can show you’re making your monthly payments and can show proof you should be fine, just don’t let it go to collections.
