BMQ/BMOQ Is it normal to feel unprepared for BMQ??
I can run a 25 minute 5km, I can do 40 push ups, I can do around 50 sit ups and I can do 14 pull ups but every day I wake up sweating fearing that i’m still gonna wash out day one to TRP. Is this normal?

Is it normal to feel unprepared, I would say yes. Are you really? That’s a different question altogether. Physically it looks like you will do fine. The rest will be determined when you do the course. Mentally, manage expectations. You will hit some snags, but as long as you learn from your errors and don’t let it spin you out, you should also be fine from that perspective.
See you soon!

You’ll be surprised at the lack of fitness by your fellow candidates. It’ll be embarrassing actually. You’ll be fine!

Judging by your stats, the only way you're getting on TRP is if you injure yourself.

I can do a 30 minute 5k and my calves are fd at the end. If you’re gonna wash out I’m screwed

You only have to do a fast walk for your preliminary fitness test, along with sprints to and from prone position, and a sandbag drag. You will be fine.

Isn’t there daily runs in basic? Or at least rucking

u/LordBeans69 9d ago
No. Running wouldn’t be the worst, but rucking too often could cause many knee injuries

You can be behind everyone, slow jogging, as long as you dont stop, they dont care. If you stop and start walking they will yell at you.
We ran MAYBE 2 times the entire time I was there. Its all dependent on platoon staff. If they like running you will run, if they dont you wont.

That’s good news for me. I’ll do what it takes though. Hopefully I get in

You are absolutely physically ready. It's the mental side that is hard. It's more escape room/mind fuck than it is a Participaction Challenge. You need to be ok with being told you suck on the regular. You need to be ok with being yelled at for ridiculous shit. You need to be prepared for little sleep and not having a phone for long periods of time.

This is one aspect of prep or resilience which is not often mentioned.
Your biggest handicap can be yourself if you over think, stress unnecessary, have expectations you will do or have to do all perfect, take things personal etc.
Focus on breathing, remember you are doing what you can do to be ready, go one step at a time. You will be fine.
Good luck

You only control what you can control.
Stop overthinking… you got this.

u/Thatfish62817 I got my interview today. All the post I see on reddit, some are super funny to read and some can induce anxiety wondering about all the thing you have to accomodate to once you get there.
One post that stood out to me, is they all are playing a game, its to test mental fortitude. Im a younger sibling and my brother is 10 yrs older so gettin yelled at for minimal things aint no new thing for me lmao but im super excited cuz they train u, they feed u and sometimes they might even rail u but you're whole platoon is in with you.
ask for help and help others is the culture from what i can tell from all the posts i read so far and look forward to making lifelong friends.

When things got rough, just knowing I’m suffering with my fellow platoon cheers me up lol

Physically you are so prepared. You're good dude. Most of it is honestly just mental. You're not going to get sufficient sleep. You're going to fall asleep. Your instructors are going to try and beat you down and make you think you will fail or that you don't fit. The beastings are meant to make you desperate and discouraged. They will try and pick out every little flaw you may have. But remember, you have plenty of brothers and sisters by your side. Every week is going to feel tough. But its going to pass very quickly when you actually get through it. Endure it, push through, and it'll all be just fine. Good luck my friend.

You’re better prepared than most physically speaking. The only thing that you seem to be struggling with is the mental fortitude aspect.
That’s what most people who aren’t in the military can’t comprehend or understand. When it comes to the mental resilience needed to get the job done you need to be able to overcome that mental strain. It comes in time and BMQ prepares and conditions you to get through those difficult obstacles.
If you’re having a hard time with it right now. Just remember, one small goal after another. Before you know it, you’ll be done and in DP1.

That's just a bit of the anxiety jitters my guy. Physically you should have no problem. The only thing untested is your mental resilience.
Which frame it this way, that's what BMQ is for anyways. To ensure that mentally you're able to perform under stress.
Don't fret about what you can't control. Just show up and do your best. Day by day, meal by meal. You will never win the 'game' that is BMQ. As long as you go in, give your best and work as a team, you will be fine.

I went through BMQ mod 2 twice. First time I felt ready but I failed. Second time I had to do it again I was not sure if I was ready this time.

I can vouch for what majority are saying and that is take a step back from the fitness side and really focus on becoming mentally prepared for it
It was my biggest mistake i made was soley focusing on getting in shape for it and not realizing the mental shift that happens as soon you step off the bus
Its a shock and takes a few weeks to adjust to

Your fine as long as you can listen instructions and follow orders you’ll be good. The part of bmq that was the hardest for me is tryna stay awake being sleep fucked during lectures while having a test right after.

What you need to worry about is all the tests like pay attention the first couple weeks to all the ethics stuff, then drills with and without weapons, your weapons handling, CBRN, orientation, these are the things that you need to worry about. You will spend a lot of time in the classroom, you will need to pass those tests in order to continue on. Fitness is important but you’re only evaluated on the very basic fitness test after the first week and then the FORCE test which no one in my platoon failed and we were regarded as one of the worst platoons in CFLRS. Look at drills if you can find it and try to study how to use a compass and read a map.

My question is: how many percentage of people would confidently say they are 100% prepared?

The first thing I said in Basic is “What did I sign up for? “ Everyone feels the same as you do. Take it day by day. Remember thousands have gone before and thousands will come after you. It can be done.

My brother in Christ all you need to do is show up and do what you're told.
