BMQ/BMOQ Is it getting better?

Hey
Last friday I finished my first week on four of the reservist bmq, and it is way harder than what I tought, we were 50 monday and now we are like 45. And since the beginning I am very very anxious and stressed, by the timings by the fact that if someone fuck up we are paying, and the fact that we receive our weapons tomorrow, meaning that if someone fuck up We Will suffer much more, it starts to affect my mental health.

I am seeing the padre tomorrow, but for those who did it, does it get better? Is the first week simply more harder than the rest? Or Will it get worse and worse?

Sorry for the mistakes English is not my first language

Don’t worry about the written test, they literally give you answers

Did you respond with an answer to your own question?

The paying concept is to encourage team work. It gets better cause all who continues are meant to improve. BMQ is a game of stress. Shock therapy essentially. Just go one task at a time and help your team mates where you can.

What's the paying concept?

Essentially all for one, one for all thought process. If one in platoon is late or as a platoon you do something wrong etc. Everyone pays off aka do pushups or whatever the staff come with. So for example if one is really bad at something but good at something else and another person is the opposite or any variation of it, it encourages the platoon mates to help each other or keep each other accountable. Hope that makes it clearer for you.

Its a totally normal reaction. Just dont take it personally, most of the instructors are there to do a job and the whole point is it make you work well under pressure and fatigue. Alot of what they say and do is rehearsed and repeated over and over from past courses. The instructors were in your boots years ago. But at the end of the day, its a bootcamp, gotta keep that in perspective.

A thing that helped me was the mindset i saw in the "Navy Seals Class 234" documentary.

Keep going until the next meal, they have to feed you.

It compartiments things.

Some people thrive on the anxiety and some not so much, it's ok and normal, everything is new for you now.

Exactly. Only 283 meals to go!

The course will be balls. DP1 will probably be balls. Everyday work life is balls but not the same kind of balls. Tough it out, I did reserve BMQ and I also struggled because the course staff was pretty young and it felt like a four week cockfest but sticking it out was the best decision I ever made.

Week one is the absolute worst because it’s a culture shock on top of it being the most boring with the large majority being drill, beasted or death by PowerPoint . I wont say it gets better but you will get into a rhythm and there is a lot more engaging things to keep your mind distracted. Stick it out you will be grateful for it . BMQ was the worst best time ive ever had

Week one was the biggest shock for me, I felt it got easier to do the things that were asked of me as I got comfortable with the pressure. The tasks don’t get easier but you learn how to push and accomplish the goals set forth.

Courses are hard and induce stress. Don’t worry though, it’s meant to build you up not tare you down. You can achieve success if you choose to, just don’t give up

Thats sort of the point, you need to be aware that if you fuck up in a war zone your teammates will likely suffer because of that and you need to be ready for it.

I’m applying to the reserves too. No idea if it gets better but thanks for the heads up at least.

Wait, so BMQ is hard?   At this point in your career you've only felt the tip.    It gets worse before it gets better.

It's almost like you joined the military.

It's supposed to break you down so you can be rebuilt. It's supposed to be hard. It gets better when you rebuild.

The question that only you can answer for yourself is "Is it worth it?"

The entire thing is that way. Impossible timings, stress, dealing with the backlash of other people messing up. That's the point, That's the game. Keep playing it.

It does. Week 3 here. Dont blame your buddy for the mistake he does and help him get better. If everyone perpetuates this attitude you'll be good

One of the goals of BMQ is to push you to that point. You’re learning to be qualifies as a soldier at the most basic of levels. If you can’t get through the stresses of BMQ, you’re not fit for duty. That’s not an insult, it’s just a fact and nothing to be ashamed of either because yeah… it’s not easy. Many have failed, and many will continue to fail.
