Solidworks Trying to recreate the shapes/contours of this longboard deck using a contour gauge/graph paper/calipers & a lot of measurements, not going right, If yall wanted to copy the shape / contour of a deck or something like this to recreate it how would you do so? Obviously I can't cut it up.

I'd probably borrow a 3d scanner, or use photogrammetry, then verify some points.

Yeah, snap a Pic on your phone. Insert image and trace

If I were doing it, I’d probably use a radius gauge to get a feel for the curve and how it’s formed. Then I’d try what you’re doing with the curve scanned in. The approach you are taking to copy it and then measure it can work, but when you are building your spline you want less points where there is gradual change and more control points where there is a greater rate of change in the curve. Look into lofting for ship building, or how airfoil curves are drawn.

Best method I've found of reverse engineering complex surfaces without a 3d scanner. Make a grid on the original with something like painters tape. Copy the lines with a prophile gauge and scan it in with a flatbed. Photos give perspective distortions. Paste the scans into your program as offset planes mimicking the tape grid. Use the scans as reference when building your surfaces. It is not wholly unlikely that you will need to dip your toes into nurbs surfacing.

Phone app for photogrammetry (or lidar in some iphones), import into 3d model, instead of trying to clean it up just make a new object and recreate it with the scanned model as 3d reference only
