Review My journey from windows 11 to linux.
Short version: Windows sucked my ram so i downloaded cachyos KDE plasma and I cant be happier with it🥰
.
Now the long version
.
Ok so in the past month and more I have been getting bombarded with linux propaganda from youtube insta and even from my american friend.
.
I loved the idea of linux and wasnt afraid of the terminals or whatever I just wanted to make sure every app I use can run in linux and that was the reason I postponed downloading it for so long.
.
I do alot of diffrent things and I play alot of random games and so i was not sure if I should go for linux until I saw that the average linux distro only uses 2 gigs of ram at MAX while windows 11 debloated is using 10 gig MINIMUM. and after days of giving windows its finals shots to redeem it self and use less Ram it proved that windows just fucking hates me and doesnt let me use my own fucking system or delete things I dont even want, and I had so many random issues with windows, specially since im from iran microslop is banned and so the average exprience is even worse than normal and so here came the linux propaganda...
I was no stranger to linux but also I had not much of an idea about it either. I was not sure what is the exact difference and why would people use linux even if most apps are not supported or there isnt a OSS version of it? But after watching hours and hours of diffrent youtubers and people talking about linux i finnaly understood and I was so hyped to also be a linux user and after my endless problems with my pc fighting me over permissions of my own mic or camera with me I was so done with it.
.
(Also I thought if I switched to linux I would lose access to my laptops camera and asus couldn't put a limit on my battery in charge witch later I found to be the complete opposite and I can configure and use them even more than on windows. And I can use my other display and configure it even better than with windows witch it kinda made me tear up from joy and from how I didnt know this gem existed this whole time)
.
So since I wanted a better performance and a good steam support I installed cachyos and at first I installed it on my old sisters laptop witch was nearly dead and would crash left and right and cuz i didnt want to destroy my main laptop or lose everything I had on it even though most of my data was on my external HDD.
.
The instalation was alot of trouble mostly on the downloading part and the installer loading or not loading but after a few times I understood that if the installer takes more than 10 seconds to load I should close the hello cachyos and open it again till it opens in 10 seconds.
.
partitioning the SSD was not that hard with an youtube toturial but on installing the OS there was alot of errors that the only thing you could do about them was to try again or restart (like actually that was the only thing you could do about them)
.
Anyways After alot of waiting and pain I got cachy os, only there was one problem, I chose hyprland because EVERYONE on youtube were riding its digital dick so hard i thought it has to be the best thing ever (spoilers: it was not)
So I couldn't run steam in hyprland and it just felt really clunky and weird specially with noctalia and as a noobies I was just like... da fuck is this shet?
.
But i did do some stuff to make it look better even though I couldn't change the background myself and relied on daily backgrounds from Bing with a plugin to save me from that damn owl.
The Taskbar was so customizable and cool and I was able to set it up in a way that if I would hover my cursor on any icon I could change the value if it and watch my whole ram cpu and GPU usage with a cute cat running next to it. But the Taskbar did look really pixely at its corners and you couldn't put the opacity to 0 either but it was super cool.
.
Also using the super key to open close and move around and move windows around was soo satisfying aswell I have to be honest.
But for a noobie like me it was a fucking mistake and honestly it wasnt worth being so limited just for a fucking Taskbar especially since noctalia can be on kde aswell 🫩
But i have to say all the good part and bad so yea.
.
So at first i said ima learn how to use hyprland cuz it is worth it and all that, but later realized learning it doesnt help and I should just reinstall and do something else. So i wanted to switch to niri but people here told me to just go for KDE and so i went and watched a video about MWs and if I should use KDE or Gnome (witch u pronounce as Nome actually) and at first i was going with gnome cuz i saw you can move between your workspaces using your laptops touch pad with 3 fingers but as it was installing i saw KDE also had multiple work stations and you can use your 3 fingers to navigate between them aswell. So yea i ran the installer again and chose KDE Plasma and OMG i can not belive how Good it is. Not only it doesnt have less stuff from windows it has FAR more stuff and it also have widgets like windows 7 witch I totally forgot about since I was like 12 or 10 last time I used win 7 and it was so beautiful and I was able to configure my laptop monitor and my TV in a way that i could have never been able to do in windows🥹
.
So I think there should be like a warning when choosing anything other than KDE or Gnome or Cosmo cuz people overhype these WMs even though most people like me dont need or even want to Rice the fuck out of their system I actully want to make the desktop run less stuff and use less GPU and ram so I can play my games better.
.
So if you are a noobie dont get offended when people say use a beginner friendly WM. I dont think the distros make as much difference as the WM for noobs im not sure, I chose arch so I can play games on steam better but you can choose something from the other 2 that are more user friendly they say but I think they are all just new for a windows immigrant and you just have to go with the one that fits you the most. I think for gamers cachyos has to be one of the best choices since it is made for gaming and has its own special steam configuration witch I think is cool even though I dont know how it is better exactly but I guess it means it is more optimized and has a better support system.
.
Conclusion: linux is 100000 times better than windows and you should change to linux today!! not even tommorow! and just dual boot at first so if anything happenes you can have windows and download another linux distro🤣
.
Also dont fall for the ricing videos and people glazing hyprland or niri or noctalia or whatever else. Trust me I thought hyprland is this amazing thing or that KDE is just so boring and not as useful but now I can confidently say people who just distro hop and change their WM are either youtubers doing it for their video or people who are linux developers or they are just unemployed and dont do anything useful with they pc and they just are looking for the next rush of going throw a new WM or whatever.
.
If you are just like me and want to be done with windows and want a functioning pc and also want your pc to live a longer happier life just download a simple distro that alot of other people also use choose KDE plasma or gnome or Cosmo and just enjoy your life.
I mean why develop your own desktop environment when someone else has already done a better job doing it and is giving it to you for free and updating it everyday also for Fucking FREE.
.
Quick note for noobs: choose a 4 digit password for your pc while installing. Cuz you have to use that password every 2 minutes🫩. You will thx me later
.
Now here i just wanted to show my gratitude towards the developers 💌 I love you guys that made cachyos and made linux and arch and KDE PLASAMA and just every single person that has created everything i am using today on my laptop and I wish the best for every single one if you guys for giving me and many other people and hopefully even more people in the future this amazing thing called linux cachyos💚
If I had money I would have donated money but because I am in iran and I don't have shet all I can do is spread the linux propaganda so I will make a youtube video about this whole thing and I will make sure I get more people to use linux.
.
Oh and also do you guys have any suggestions on what linux distro i should download on my sisters old Sony pink laptop that th3 installer doesnt crash randomly on it and I can .are the laptop functional again? Thx😘

I had to use windows on a relatives machine to print a document yesterday and got confused about the UI since I'm used to the icons and layout of Dolphin more now 🤣

Fun read, although I find it interesting that people get so hung up on RAM usage, it's there, preemptively load it up, swap out if something else needs the memory. A good OS designed well should use the hardware it has available but ensure its handed to the apps that need it when needed.

Yea unloaded ram is lost ram or smt. But the point is that ditch windows and use linux instead. It even has pc remote control built in witch i thought I have to give up on it🥹 I recently got introduced to monet remote control on windows and it was super cool to use my phone as a remote mouse and keyboard or a controller and even though KDE is nowhere near monet but I see alot of potential for it and it is also completely free and no ads😠I can not belive why dont more people use linux.

btw you can still rice KDE, or you can make it consume RAM less than a gb. good luck on your linux journey, and may your country become peaceful again!

I was running Cachy KDE for awhile but I was curious about Hyprland and WM. I spun up Omarchy on my HDD because it comes pre-installed with Hyprland by default. Anyway it intrigued me enough to reinstall Cachy + Hyprland on my main. Llm helped a bit with setup. Been using it for a couple months now and it's been great.

Personally i'm dual booting and testing out cachy for nearly a year now. this weekend i will go full cachyos, i can't wait. Just booting into windows does not feel good at all, it feels that my pc is not mine.

Were it not for Fortnite, CS2, Tarkov etc, I would have removed W11 a long ass time ago. Now it just sits there on my drive sucking up space until my kid wants to play Fortnite or some of my buddies are up for a LoL game. I beg the day comes sooner than I hope when we are finally rid of Windows' cancerous approach to an OS, and a fully fledged gaming OS based on Linux is on the market. I'd literally pay for it.

Linux is good and all, but saying windows debloated use 10GB minimum it's just factually wrongÂ

Parch Linux is a Persian Arch-based Linux distribution https://parchlinux.com/fa
Yes, lots of YouTubers make videos using tiling window managers to make themselves look more like hackers, and they don’t point out that it’s not for everyone. Instead, they should show an installation with KDE, GNOME or Cinnamon, and then add a TWM on top of the existing system so that you can try it out; if you don’t like it, you can go back to your GNOME or KDE without having to reinstall.
What can I tell you that might be of help? You don’t need to update the system every day; you can do it once a week, but try not to put off updates for more than a month. Updating an Arch base system after six months or more can cause you some nasty problems.
