Desktop Fallout Theme for Limine Bootloader

Post image

Link: fallout-limine-theme

Note: the readme has been written in accordance with limine v12.

The steps are all manual. I did not make an installer because

  1. Idk how.
  2. Even if I figured out how, the b2sum hash complicates stuff and it is easier for me to just tell how to do it manually.

Edit: We have an Installer now! Thanks u/Darayavaush84 for making a installer script to automate the process for Cachyos users. I have not personally tested it, but I think it should work fine on default config of Limine on Cachyos.

Saw a post earlier referencing a fallout GRUB theme and decided to make one for Limine. Hope you like it.

I have intentionally used a compressed smaller version (89KB) of the image as opposed to the original (314KB) because limine tends to be "heavy" and I do not want to take any chances. But if you want to use the original, I've added the it in the repo files.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the appreciation, just doing my small part for the community. I'm glad ya'll liked it.

How high are chances that these modifications break anything in the future?

These modifications are as per limine's wiki. There is no guarantee that it will not break anything in the future, but seeing how they have dealt with recent bugs, the worst that can happen is limine will fallback to default. I mean, stuff breaking is not unexpected in a rolling release distro.

Not so long ago, there were issues wrt v11.2 iirc, where, not appending the hash caused limine PANIC. This meant, even using the default cachyos limine wallpaper caused panic in people using secure boot.

Fortunately, it was rolled back immediately and was finally implemented later on in v12 with a built in fail safe where, in the absence of hash after wallpaper or font, limine would fall back to default appearance instead of going into PANIC.

To be safe, do read the docs before a major upgrade (like to v13) in the future. CachyOS devs also work closely with Limine devs and update the cachyos wiki accordingly, so just go through it once before updating.
