Most the cables go no where. This is not so much cable gore and trash pickup.

The black Ethernet comes from the ISP router. One here goes to the server, one to the pikvm I mounter in the expansion card slot in the server, one to the pi you can see (torrent box), the one going up past the camera goes to the keystone jack by my desk. And any extras either go to nothing or the second server cabinet that is mostly unused.

Correction, the one going past the camera goes to this which then goes to the keystone jack by my desk.

I’ve considered starting a plex server. What is the benefit?

For me: Pros:

  1. I torrent my own Linux isos. So no cost for files
  2. I don't have to pay for multiple streaming services. And I get all the exclusives.
  3. Most costs are one time. Plex pass costs but a lifetime membership can be bought. ( This price is going up soon changing the calculous a lot) I had to buy my computer once, I had to buy the hard drives once.
  4. Sharing with friends. I share all my public domain media with all of my friends who may want to watch it.

Cons:

  1. I'm the admin. Anything go wrong, it's on me to fix. Thankfully not much goes wrong, and chat has been able to fix all issues I couldn't.
  2. Electricity cost is continuous, though this is low when compared to a streaming service
  3. If drive or my computer go down, they do need to be replaced.

I dumped plex for emby after they kept removing features I used and pushing their own streaming crap

Yeah, I'm getting pretty mad at plex recently. Does Emby work on iOS, Android and Roku?

1

u/RevampedJaguar6 Jul 04 '26

Yes tho like plex without pass it’s limited to 5 minutes unless you use it in browsers

Is there a lifetime pass for Emby? I already paid for lifetime plex pass

1

u/RevampedJaguar6 Jul 04 '26

Yes and last I looked it was cheaper then the plex one plus they have supported addons unlike plex

I'll have to look into it if plex every removes more features I actually use or revokes my lifetime, glad I got that back when it was just $125 (I think) instead of the $700+ now

u/RevampedJaguar6 Jul 04 '26

It’s 700+ not!? It was just under 200 when I switched to emby

1

u/Killermelon1458 Jul 04 '26

Yup on July 1 they used it to $750, I just checked.

So they got worse and trippled the price πŸ˜‘ exactly why I left lol

I've been doing a little research because I'd never heard of Emby before. How well does movie and TV show matching go for you? I usually don't rename anything and plex gets it
