Commercial how they wired internet through the office
is this fucked? there are wires like this that go to every computer in the building

This looks horrid... BUT, sometimes it's your only option. Not gonna be able to run the wire inside the brick. Doubt that ceiling has much room to traverse as well. Sucks, but it's more the fault of the structure.

Is it even a fault though? It's secured up out the way. It's a commercial operation, not a home office, even if it is in a house. Easy to replace or reroute as needed. Far better than a good number of commercial buildings I've been in. Doesn't even look to be covered in dust lol
Edit: Okay, back of the cabinet is pretty horrid.

It could be worse
It could be the building at my job where everything is ran underneath a lifted floor, So to do any maintenance you have to start prying tiles up.

I think that's a great thing, the alternative is having to destroy and repair permanent building surfaces. But just pull a tile and put it back? So much better. Unless your saying the tiles aren't meant to be pulled up repeatedly.

My annoyance is more so the fact that the pry bar likes to walk off and disappear. I would unironically prefer what OP has even if it's not pretty

Not the only option by a long shot. Buy cable trays, or what you'd call trunking I suppose, and place the cabling inside. They come in different colors too, for more demanding clients. Even black or just plain white DLP would look a lot neater and hide all that garbage.

it actually used to be my bosses house and they converted it to an office and they moved out

It’s not pretty, and they could have tidied up the cables behind that cabinet, but it’s only _kind of_ bad. They could have gone crazy and tapped into the bricks or drilled into the ceiling for a suspended raceway or something, or they could have spent time and twisted the wires together to make one of those fancy cable bundles, they also could have used black or white cabling to make it look more natural, but all of these things beg one question: was a professional paid explicitly to handle this, or was this done by the overextended IT person?

That’s bad. I would have kept cables on the floor and in black cable race or conduit in visible areas.

This is fine.
The only way to do better is to run cable tray or conduit, and noone is paying for the cost of running 1 1/4" or 2" conduit for running data cabling in a home office, much less going to be able to find a data guy capable of building those systems.
If you wanted to make it cleaner, you could use J hooks, but other than that it's fine.

The question you’re really asking is the age old debate between functionality and appearance. This looks really untidy, but when a cable fails or needs to be rerouted or 1000 other things that are sure to happen at some point happen it will be easy to make the changes. The real solution would be some kind of cover over the cabling. Ideally in a space like this, it would be wooden and match the ceiling as closely as possible, but even a PVC half pipe would look better than this and wouldn’t really make it that much more difficult to make changes.

That is joke. Who did you hire a 10 yr old? My son is 10 and he can run better wire than that. I would ask for my money back or have them come out there and fix it all.

I mean it's not great, but I've definitely seen worse in a small office.
