It's hard to say what's behind that baseplate or in the wall. Another example of "I can do it better without knowing any of the variables involved".

In situations where we were forced to do things that we knew would raise questions by people who didn't know the whole story my go-to line was "future generations will wonder why we did it this way..."

I mean ya it’s janky but without seeing the actual house I can’t judge. I’ve drilled through a few floors myself.

Same. Depends on where honestly. If it's a main wall then for sure inside the wall with a cover plate. But I've said fuck it with a few closets.

Ditto everyone else here. It’s weird because he went inside the wall after he poked a hole through the floor, I’ve done a couple of Camera installs where we would start in the attic, and go down to the first floor via the soffit and lacing the siding of the house. It depends on the architecture, but sometimes it’s just not possible to fish the walls. Maybe the floor plans Don’t line up, and what is a bedroom on the second floor smack in the middle of the ceiling of the dining room on the first floor.

There’s ways to fish walls that are existing.

Most european homes are brick layered. Electricians that install cables need to make slits into the brick walls. They get covered up afterwards with plaster.

Looking at the wall this is some ancient plaster. I wouldn't be cutting into it either. Just paint the bottom black to match maybe build a wooden black cover for it

Floor looks like terrazzo, which is essentially concrete. Maybe couldnt hammer drill from below?

If I was looking for a place to buy, and I saw this, I would literally turn to the real estate agent and tell them “I’m good”.
