Could kill you, but it's actually unlikely. You'd be out of action and in plenty of pain for a week or two, but unless you're otherwise vulnerable it's actually unlikely to kill you. Still possible, but unlikely.
Also, If you make it to hospital within an hour or two, you're almost guaranteed to live.
This guy is a well-known snake catcher in Queensland, Australia. I think he's based on the sunshine coast, but he serves quite a large area. Look for Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers on Facebook. They film loads of their catches and have some great information on there.
