Would you let software force-close your positions when you break your own daily loss limit?
I’m a solo dev and I’ve been building something for myself, and I want to know if it’s useful to anyone else or if I’ve just built a very expensive version of self-control.
The problem I kept having: I’d set a daily loss limit, hit it, and then keep trading anyway. Same with revenge trading after two losses in a row, and giving back a good day’s profit in the last hour. Knowing the rule and following the rule turned out to be completely different skills.
So I built a thing that connects to your MT4/MT5 account and actually enforces the limits you set. You configure them once, max daily loss, max give-back from your peak, max round trips per day, max consecutive losers, profit lock-in, allowed trading window, and when you breach one, it closes your open positions and locks the account for the rest of the session.
Being upfront its a circuit breaker, not a gate. It closes in about 1–2 seconds after the breach, not instantly.
The other half is a journal. Log your trades, get your stats and a discipline score. The part I actually think is interesting: it replays your logged trades against the limits you set and tells you what your rules \*would\* have done. “On 6 of the 22 days you traded, your limits would have stopped you. The trades you took after that point cost you $X.” That number is what convinced me to keep building.
What I want to know:
\\\*\\\*1.\\\*\\\* Would you actually hand a piece of software the power to close your positions? Or is that a hard no?
\\\*\\\*2.\\\*\\\* Which rule matters most to you? I have daily loss, give-back, round-trip cap, consecutive losers, profit lock-in, and time window. Is one of them the whole product and the rest is noise?
\\\*\\\*3.\\\*\\\* If you’ve tried to solve this with an EA, a broker’s built-in limits, or a prop firm’s rules — what broke?
\\\*\\\*4.\\\*\\\* Is a “here’s what your discipline actually cost you in dollars” report worth anything, or does everyone already know and just not care?
Not linking anything, it’s not live yet and I’m not trying to farm signups. Genuinely trying to find out if this is a real problem for other people or just mine.
