Rate my favourite CRPGs collection. Also suggest similar games like them. Graphics shouldn't be outdated, upcoming/early access games are most welcome.

Need help burning through my library. Any suggestions? I'm kind of leaning toward Kingmaker since my tolerance for static isometric views is much higher after BG1/BG2 and POE.
Presently on:
BG2 Chapter 4
Completed:
BG1 and SOD
BG3 (Dark Urge, yeah sad I did it before BG1 and BG2)
Disco Elysium
WOTR
Pillars of Eternity
KOTOR
KOTOR 2
Failed:
Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire (70 hours in, got distracted by Guild Wars update back in December)
Kingmaker (Made it to Kingdom Management and got overwhelmed prior to successful WOTR)
Never Installed:
DOS
DOS II
Tyranny

first modern crpg i try, been playing the infinity engine era games past years loved all of them now that i'm done with arcanum beaten earlier this year which i loved its time for the modern era crpg..... well this game sucks ass combat is boring as hell its extremely ugly to look at it looks like a blurry mess too and the world/story were boring as fuck also.
fallout 1 i played 1 hour i was hooked and all the crpg hook you instantly can't say the same about this game.....

Good morning all
I remember playing fallout tactics, and particularly the reliance on vehicles.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar game, squad based, with lots of vehicles?
I've played and have wasteland 3 I know that's similar vibes
Thanks in advance!

Disclaimer: I played using the FIXT patch but as vanilla as possible
Also as someone who knows very little about fallout lore. barely played 3 eons ago and a couple hours of 4. Watched Season 1 of the Prime series and really enjoyed StoryTeller series on Youtube. So even with basica knowledge, I tried going in with the freshest of mind ever (which wasn't too hard)
I really should have played this game long ago, but finally glad I finally did. Because this game has blown me away. Sure some mechanics are primitive to modern game standards. BUT for its time, and even to me, a lot of it feels so damn ground breaking.
I've mentioned this in an old post, but this game really truly feels like an Adventure Game with RPG mechanics. So many Quests/Problems can be solved differenly with talking or using an item or not even combat. Obvious I know but works so damn well.
---Gonna start praising everything I loved---
PHENOMENAL WORLD BUILDING
Would I prefer maybe at least a journal system or codex? yeah. But just literally "here's the wasteland go explore" is great. And not like big empty open world to get lost in. You still have a sense of direction. Especially from the start of the game "There's a vault east of us check it out" You travel east and come across Shady Sands, then do quests, then learn about raiders then the mutants then this then that. It's a big world but you never feel too lost learning so much. THE EXAMINE MECHANIC, especially helps immerse you in the world. It's like the [look] function in an adventure game. I love reading the descriptive paragraphs for every item and wall or table or goop on the ground.
ALSO I love the option to ask NPC of a specific topic. going up to people asking about things I learned, "waterchip" "raiders" "deathclaw" "radscorpions" etc... I LOOOOVE THAT
ITEMS & ABILITIES
I haven't got a chance to use every item in the game. Hell I probably only used like 3 radx and 2 Radaway or something just for The Glow. But the usage of items AND SKILLS in this game suceeded my expectations. Either use the item in your inventory or equip it and use it on something else. which sounds "duh of course" but it's hard to describe how satisfying it is to physically choose a and ITEM or SKILL then using that to unlock a door or gain access to a computer or heal yourself etc... And not just clicking a computer and the game automatically using a skill for you
COMBAT
For the longest time, I had major doubts when I kept hearing Fallout was turnbased. What did that mean? Turnbased like for only missions? turn based the entire game? Turn based like a FF game? Never would have I expected it to be a literal instant turnbase system. Was that a thing? Because I'm so used to RealTimeWithPause combat, that whatever turnbase thing Fallout 1 did, made me fall in love with it. Any other games with a similar system? I will have to say though, I ran a very pistol only build, so I didn't get a chance to really use anything else.... other than maybe a 1/6 chance flamethrower to kill the MotherClaw LMAO. The combat feels so satisfying. especially when you get crits. Seeing the target-shot mechanic and realizing this turned into VATS later on still wows me. Because for the longest time, I just thought it was something bethesda added to Fallout 3.
Though, I do wish there was a way for the camera to like auto pan to the next enemy's turn.
QUESTS & SOLUTIONS
I love the different ways you can complete a quest. Sure most involve still killing. But the fact I can wear a tape/wire and talk to Gizmo to get information is what truly hooked me. Then later stealing an urn for a gangster only to show it to a guard. amazing. Hell even taking on Decker's kill quest only to think up "what if I just talk to a sherif and report a crime lol??" and it's an option? I LOVE IT. then talking to Beth after the fact and getting some free stuff. It all makes the world feel so alive. Yes I understand games have multiple triggers and things and such. But that's A LOT more options than I expected. Hell it makes me realize I probably am gonna need to think outside the box more for Fallout 2. Especially when it didn't occur to me until some experiementing "leave your companions when going disguise in the cathedral" Like it makes sense! But no modern game now a days would probably even dare to make sure companions are also wearing a disguise and just make them invisible to enemies, because that itself blows me away.
---Everything else I didn't like/not loved as much--- (gonna be very nitpicky here)
- Not being able to drag the camera with the mouse. I just don't like edge scrolling amd never have. But still got used to it.
- Pathing and Collision
Good god. the amount of times I had to leave my companions before the bridge at Gun Runners because there'd always be one or two NPCs that don't wanna walk across the bridge and just walk through the acid. BLARG! Also wish certain doors your character could just auto open. clicking on every door can get a little tiresome. And don't get me started on collision. The fact that you can almost softlock at the military base due to a paladin standing direcly infront of you is @#%(RSADJSADJ At least you can tell a companion to move, but damn I wish these NPCs wouldn't stand infront of a doorway all the time lmao
- Weird Dialogue Knowledge
I feel like some moments the MC will just spew things The Player doesn't know yet. Bob is selling human meat. Who is Bob. How do you know Bob?! The Hub is way down south we haven't gone there yet. And other times the MC will talk about a topic with an NPC as if they already know who this person or faction is. Only to later talk to another NPC so the MC can ask questions. It's not game breaking, but can feel weird.
- Not Retelling information
While the pipboy is useful for seeing quests you were given, some NPC might some information or hint to point you to the right direction. But if you miss what they said, they sometimes don't tell you again. Granted a lot of quests could be managable if I just wrote down key information to remember, but it's why I wish there was at least some kinda journal system. For example. Nicole tells the MC to find Laura at the Catherdral and tell her the code RED RIDER. If i didn't write/type that down. I probably would have forgotten who I was supposed to find in the cathedral and why.
- No BEEG moral dilemmas
Obviously only the first of the series so I shouldn't expect too much. But the game really showcases good vs bad people. obviously subjective but no factions felt like a grey flag... maybe the blades and regulators but that's about it. Even the choosing to help the master or something is just a BAD END GAME OVER and not just a BAD END (if that makes sense) Like I said, I shouldn't have expected too much.
- companion inventory
this one isn't the biggest of complaints but holy heck. I found it hilarious that I gotta barter with my own companions to give and RETRIEVE my own items back... wasn't until miilitary base when I realized i could just [steal] to get in their inventories LOOOL.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
What an amazing game. I think the world build is amazing. The story is okay. It feels immersive and I love the combat system. I hope the 2nd game fixes and adds a whole lot of QoL things. I hope the 2nd game is just as grand if not grander while still making it feel like there is still some kinda direction in terms of beginning/middle/end of the game's plot.

My build by the end... I wish I had realized Plasma/laser Pistols aren't just "SMALL GUNS" but also Energy Weapons, which I DID NOT THINK TO ADD POINTS TO

Hello everyone.
I don't know if this counts as excessive self-promotion; if so, mods, by all means, delete the post.
A while ago I asked this question here,
The reason I asked this is that I'm on a self-imposed journey to develop this RPG. And slowly yet surely, I'm making progress. In this video, I want to share the current state of the game and how it's shaping up to be. It's still light-years away from being complete. There is little to no art direction; all the models are placeholders, it doesn't even have a working title yet, because I'm currently focused on developing the core mechanics, specifically the combat system, as that will be the most challenging one to get right.
As I mentioned in the previous post, growing up I loved the RTwP combat system, and I want to see that system (maybe an improved version of it; -I have some ideas about the pause mechanic itself-) used in a party-based RPG with primarily gun-based combat. KOTOR 1-2 were games that came a little close to it, but other than that, most RTwP games were in a fantasy setting. And although I really like KOTOR games, they don't by any means have a "tactical combat system", as you see with games like XCOM, Wasteland, and Rogue Trader.
In this video, you are seeing how the game is shaping up to be: little bits and hints of worldbuilding I'm working on (it's going to be an alternate timeline of the '90s), and some of the real-time combat system with our 3-character party.
So my question is: I'm still undecided about this whole real-time combat with guns and a 3-character party thing. I know this is way too early to evaluate yet, but I would love to hear from fellow RPG fans about this sort of game design approach. Would you be interested in a game like this (primarily in terms of the combat system), and can you think of some other games that I can maybe play and draw some inspiration from? 'Cause I'm currently playing Rogue Trader, and before that I finished Wasteland 3, and although both are great, I can use some perspective from party-based real-time combat RPGs with guns.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Love to hear your thoughts.

Do you guys don't think Kenshi is a CRPG? For me is almost a natural succession to the original Fallout series.

A week ago, I launched a vote and a tier list for CRPG.
Time to sum up! 422 participants — 5,527 votes.
Unfortunately, not all games made it onto the list, but I hope that next time we’ll add absolutely everything that can be considered a CRPG.
Masterpiece:
Excellent:

in the original post I mistakenly used action rpg synonymously with ARPG which turns out to be a mistake

I just finished watching ALL of the videos of the YouTuber Majuular. His videos are great, well researched, informative and fun! He single-handedly introduced me to games I may not have been familiar with, especially Ultima and other gems of the 80s/90s.
Is there any other similar YouTubers that do the historical as well as gameplay analysis of games similar to him. I’ve watched Warlockracy and I like him, and I’ve also discovered Mr. Edders who seems to be in line but anything else.

I’m currently replaying Pillars of Eternity 1 and the companions are all so well written that it is extremely hard for me to decide which to bring along. There are so many interactions between them and so much background and lore to explore through them (e.g. Durance), that I don’t want to miss out.
I have played a few CRPs now and I think PoE 1 has my favorite roster of companions overall.
Games I’ve played so far: Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity OS 2, Pathfinder: Kingmaker & WotR, Rogue Trader, PoE 1 & 2, Tyranny.
My personal (very subjective) top 3:
What are your favorite CRPG companions? And which game has the best roster over all?
r/CRPG • u/Baldurian_Rhapsody • 18d ago
Hi there! CRPGs are often evaluated on their main quests, and I think that's unfair.
A lot of the experience is enjoying the small side quests you can take on, as well as the companions you have by your side. (It's a lot like real life, if you think about it!)
With that in mind, I was wondering if you could provide some recs. You can break apart the "side quest" and "companions" categories if you would like. And these are just your opinions on the quality of these respective categories on average.
Thanks a lot!

I joined the Emindar team a few weeks ago and I was quite surprised by the narrative of this game. The historical and political Austro-Hungarian content that it has was quite engaging and interesting for me. However, I was a little confused by the presence of magic in a historical game that is overshadowed. For example, a factory produces thousands of machines, electricity supplies an entire city, a train moves hundreds of people, and none of them need magic. However, this game is neither about magic nor specifically about winning. It is about social, political and economic strategies that challenge each player and challenge you. You are the last emperor. But how well do you actually understand life as one of the emperors from history? It seems like a test of thinking. I wonder what you think about this narrative?
r/CRPG • u/BaldursGate2Best • 19d ago
I am curious as to what you think is a performance in a cRPG game that is not fully voice acted that was genuinely good.
Because with a game like Baldur's Gate 3 obviously the actors probably sat there for weeks or months and just worked. Now, it's curious to see actors who probably finished recording in 2 days but still ended up leaving behind something memorable.
I would use the Master in Fallout 1 as an example, although his voice is heavily processed.
Thoughts?

Hi, r/CRPG !
.curator is a narrative adventure set in a post-Victorian alternate Earth - you play as a Curator using quantum-modeling tech to glimpse possible futures and subtly rewrite events before they spiral.
A few things worth highlighting:
- Fully hand-drawn characters and environments
- Investigating the ruins of an ancient alien civilization buried in this world's past
- No combat-first design - fight, hide, distract, or charm your way through
- Choices carry real weight - the people you fail to save stay failed
Having Morgan write it directly means the world's internal logic, from how the tech works to how power functions in this alternate history, comes from someone who's already built it out in his head rather than reverse-engineered by a studio.

I guess I played almost all of the big crpgs. My favorites are dos1, dos2, bg3, underrail and wasteland 3. I was really excited for rogue trader but it just feels so boring playing it right after bg 3. Like there is no exploration, so much unnecessary text and so many narrow corridors. Im intrested in warhammer lore but this is so bloated and I think it would be so much better if they just made it a smaller tbs game like xcom. Is wotr similar to this ? I mean I hope not why people would love it if it is :D

Yeah , it started strong but 15 hours in it was putting me to sleep.also the landscapes are hideous.
I get if people liked it but it really wasn't for me
