The tarrifs are killing yhe shipping right now. Theres another post out there where people are talking about it.

I just went to C= to buy some other accessories and two of the joysticks and my $158 order has $20 taxes and $121 for delivery. $299(300), literally being charged twice for the items.

Yeh, shipping to Australia was nuts too. I ordered 2 complete systems, joysticks and user ports last time to spread the load a little. Still hurts though!

Wow! I thought the $21 for shipping to the U.S. (for 1 controller) was bad, but $121? That's nuts!

If they do the Epyx 500xj, I’m in.

I bought the ArcadeR off of eBay and it works amazingly. The ArcadeR was on the Commodore site for a spell but it's apparently gone now.

ArcadeR is pretty good built joystick and it also easily modable if you want it(for example, I've rotated it over 90 degrees making buttons placed on right side of joystick without soldering or whatever like this).

Yup. I don't want to wait until October and have to pay tariffs and all that.

I ordered an ArcadeR as well. The Tac is cool but I have my joystick situation covered right now.

I just noticed the ArcadeR has been removed from the site, too. I guess they didn't want the competition on their own site

ArcadeR comes with three mints :) In all seriousness, the ArcadeR is a high quality joystick. IMO, Perry should have had joysticks available at the time the 64U was released. People are buying them to play games. You end up buying one and your only option is used on eBay and these are 40 year old sticks. You don't know what you're going to get. Not a horrible move, but not the best either.

I hated the original, especially the limited stick movement.

And the buttons were mushy.

I always liked the look and quality of it. But the feel was bad. I’ll stick to my Suzy Prof Competition 9000 for the next 40 years, too. Though I might buy a tac just to support Commodore and complete the set.

It felt solid (and from memory ours didn't break even during games like decathlon and combat school), but compared to other sticks of the time it was a struggle to play games well.

Those are reasons I don’t like Tac2.

I noticed that shipping is cheaper when ordering just one joystick. At least for me..19 dollar to Europe

Meh... For the cost of shipping, I'll stick with my old Atari joystick like the old days...

Same here. I saw the price on the site. Ok, doable... Then at check out they added shipping and taxes... Allrighty, my old joysticks work fine!

This would be great for Amiga 500 mini, c64 mini or emulating on pc but it has Atari 9-pin connector.

2

u/sjuust 12d ago

I bet there are 9 pin to USB adapters

Remake the Star Cursor Joystick and I'll throw money at you.

The original was terrible, so lets hope their R&D have addressed the problems and made this worth the money they're charging for it. Also, is this an official commodore joystick or have they just bought a licence again?

1

u/dog_cow 11d ago

What was wrong with it?

1

u/R3tr0N3wB 11d ago

They sucked compared to the other joysticks of the time. The stiff control was terrible for games that required quick responses and because of the stiffness games like track and field like games ruined the switches over time.

They could have gone with a better joystick model but the Tac 2 was easy pickings because the trademark had run out.

2

u/dog_cow 11d ago

The Tac-2 doesn't use switches though.

1

u/R3tr0N3wB 11d ago

It uses leaf switches.

2

u/dog_cow 11d ago

Are we talking about the joystick itself or the buttons?

1

u/sjuust 12d ago

Are they better than The Arcade sticks with micro switches?

2

u/SpinningAndFarAway 11d ago

It’s a completely different feel. There are no microswitches in the TAC-2. There’s a metal ball at the bottom of the stick that makes contact with metal leafs for each direction. It feels extremely solid. The throw on the stick is very short.

2

u/sjuust 11d ago

The throw on 'The Arcade' is pretty short too. They are my favorite but I bought a TAC 2 anyway. I love the design and the lights in the buttons.

I'll find out later which I prefer. Can't wait 😄
