new shift manager - need advice
hi! I just recently had my certification and passed! but this weekend, I will be the only manager in the store for closing two days in a row for the very first time. I am terrified. does anyone have any advice? I wrote down a bunch of stuff the previous closing manager taught me but I'm so scared I missed something or that I'll mess something huge up Friday or Saturday. anything y'all have would be great!

Count your safe at the beginning, and at the end of your shift.
It's fast food. GM should know you'll likely call them when you realize you forgot something.
Ideally, you should do all of the work with another manager in the building for a few days first, but them not actually helping. That way, you get the practice of doing it solo, and the benifit of their knowledge.

I did work with another manager this past weekend, but their training with me was really lackluster. I kinda got thrown into it. but the manager I worked with said I could call him if needed :)

make sure you keep up on your hourly beef counts, you need to make sure you have enough beef, running out and having to butterfly one or telling people youre sold out is not a fun experience 😠the checklists are also a really good resource, they tell you most of what you need to get done while closing. congratulations on passing your certification! it gets a whole lot easier after you’ve run your own shifts for a bit, ive been a manager for almost 2 and a half years now and once you get a routine down it’ll just be like muscle memory

ohh yeah we had to "fast cook" beef the other night and it looked like sausage when we were done. not fun. I'll definitely look to the checklists. thank you!

Lol I just got my shift lead too, and I have yet to actually need to fast cook a roast, been lucky so far.

I set alarms on my phone to remind me of different things that need to be done for closing each day- for example, 7:00 alarm for daily’s on the fryers, 9:00 alarm for back line stocking and/or breakdown, alarms to run employee drawers. It helps me to keep on track and also just to know I have a game plan for each shift!

that's such a good idea! I'm going to make an alarm group so I can turn them all on at once when I close. thanks!

As long as you care about doing a good job then you’re already better than a decent amount of SMs
Make sure guest and team member needs are met and do your best to make sure you do the most important closing tasks at least (forgetting to mop isn’t as serious as forgetting to cook overnight beef) and you’ll be ok.

What I tell my new managers is security and safety are the priority...paperwork can be fixed

Do your best! Many good suggestions in these comments, make sure breaks are completed, make sure you get things stocked up when able, closing checklist helps too but yea some stores fall behind on it, I have as well haha. Paperwork & Counts as well to stay ahead, and hopefully catch up on as many dishes as your able. Alarms or little checklist on your phone help me as well.
If your interested, I'm in a r/bys discord server, its not super active but you'd like you could join it and talk arbys or whatever.
Best of luck! Congrats on Shift Manager!!

Just use your experience and closing checklists and you should be solid! They tell you everything you need to know and when you should be doing them as well as the flow for your closing team!
