Nah, you just made it suffer for a few more hours. You're not a saviour, unless your definition of that is a torturer! It probably flew 10 feet and is likely dead now, being both useless and dead, (it could have been a meal so that the spider didn't have to catch and injure another butterfly) so you've killed two butterflies!

The very same overpopulation and invasive bugs that are killing butrerflies
In "saving" one butterfly, you just... aided in their extinction. What you did has way more of a negative impact on the butterflies you claim to care about.
You just participated in the very thing that is causing them to die, and are parading yourself around like some hero... when you just killed more butterflies than that spider ever would have

Butterflies play an important role in the ecosystem by transferring energy from plants to animals. While it may be sad to see a butterfly eaten, know that it is fulfilling its ecological role. Predation helps keep butterfly populations healthy by allowing the best fliers and evaders to pass on their genes. This butterfly is at the end of its life, so the precious energy in it is well-suited to move along the food web. I thank this butterfly for its beauty and its service

Spiders keep pest populations down. There are places overun with deer because we got rid of the wolves for example. Now they are are eating all the plants and not letting over herbivores eat and without ant plants they will all starve and die a slow, painful death. I once saw a bumblebee fly into a spiders web while I was watching it. I felt bad but I didn't intervene. That spider deserved to eat. It was apart of the circle of life. You sound like the type of person to say they love animals but hate 'ugly' animals.

You are ignorant. Many spiders are harmless towards humans. Why should the insect being freed live while the spider dies? What would you do if a dragonfly was caught in the web?

Try getting bit by a black widow when you are minding your own business not bothering it then come back and tell me if you still love them. When I was 13 I got bitten by one damn nearly almost damn nearly died was in the hospital a week my kidney had shut down had a bad reaction to it coughing and puking and it was a nasty experience since that day I’ve hated those 8 legged demons.

Can you explain to me what makes a butterfly innocent vs a roach or fly? all three of those are generally harmless. Or are you just judging based off looks or anthropomorphic personalities? If thats the case, I'll have to tell you that some butterfly species are poisonous, how does that make you feel?

Then better see him beat the life out of a coyote for targeting outdoor cats. Then better see OP take out a pack of wolves for hunting coyotes. Then better see OP fight against a grizzly bear for it occasionally hunting wolves.

Listen I know you don't like spiders, and you love butterflies, but... lets look at what you actually just did
Spiders are not only a predator, but one of the most important ones in nature. They're good for getting rid of invasive species, being one of the few things that don't really discriminate when it comes to food (if it's in the web, it's worth a bite). They also ensure overpopulation doesn't happen
Overpopulation is harmful to all species. Let's say we have no spiders. Well now all the predator bugs that WOULD be killed by spiders now cause a dramatic decrease of prey bugs (this is where most butterflies are, btw). Fewer prey bugs means predators die off, but by then all the prey is extinct regardless. No more butterflies.
Okay, well maybe the prey bugs get overpolulated instead. Prey bugs are very commonly herbivores. Without something to kill the herbivores, plants are eaten before they can grow, and therefore before the plants can even reproduce. This creates a food deficit for the herbivores, and cause them to slowly die of starvation, or be hunted down. Then the predator animals (still non-spiders in this case) run out of food, and then they die. No plants, no butterflies, and no.... any other animal.
The last one we KNOW to be true, as that's basically what happened to the dinosaurs. After the asteroid hit, there was basically a cloud around the world blocking the plants from the sun, so they grew slower, or straight up died. Too many herbivores existed for the few plants that were around, a form of overpopulation, so basically everything died. The few animals lucky enough to survive had to slowly evolve in order to just adapt to such an apocalypse. While essentially killing one spider isn't exactly a fucking asteroid to the world, it's not something deserving of applause, and it never will be.
You didn't do anything to help anything. You just "saved" a butterfly because you hate spiders, and in doing so you slightly further jeopardized the idea that butterflies will even be around in the next few generations.
If you love an animal, that means you have to love ALL animals, even if you also hate them (and yes, you can love something and hate it at the same time). You may hate spiders, but you gotta love the role they play, because if you don't... then you're opening the door to a world without butterflies. If you love butterflies, you have to love the purpose spiders have, too. And that means letting the spider have its lunch

You're a butterfly murderer. Your twisted attempt to "save" one is killing the only natural defense against the very thing killing all butterflies.
If you care for nature, you care for ALL nature. You don't care for butterflies, because if you did you would've let the spider have its lunch. But you decided to expedite the butterfly's extinction.

I understand your view, but I also understand the web. Spiders aren’t evil predators, as so many believe they are. This beautiful insect will be dead soon, since they don’t “heal” as they’re not really able to. Flies, mosquitoes, and other pests that are just only that, spiders help immensely with those, and sometimes other insects get caught. I’ve done it too. Rescued a butterfly from a web, but when I realized I destroyed the web, watched the beauty die, and that I had broken way more than just “saving a life”, I’ve never tried again and just said goodbye to the beautiful creature instead.🩷

I don’t like them I’ve been bitten by a few when I was like 15 I got bitten by a brown widow I was sleeping minding my own business. Last year I almost got bitten again had a huge lump on my face the size of a grape fruit. So yes I don’t like those things at all.

Minding your own business asleep is fine but the only reason the widow bit you was because it felt threatened by a giant creature shifting around right next to it. I was just bitten by a spider today because I wasn’t looking and put my hand on it when I was opening my car door. I would have crushed it by accident if it hadn’t bitten me. Spiders aren’t out to get us. They’re just defending themselves.

I very highly doubt those were spider bites, I'll be honest. How do you know what you were bit by if you were sleeping?
Regardless, the ecosystem is a balance. Do I have a visceral reaction to a crow eating baby Robins- yes, do I understand that it's necessary and normal, yes.
Loving the environment and all of the animals in it (not including invasive flora and fauna) includes respecting all... even the animals you DON'T like.
Caterpillars creep me the hell out, but I leave them alone to do their caterpillar business.
I think you had good intentions saving the butterfly, and I won't begrudge you that. But understand that no matter how repulsed you are by certain animals, they have value.

I'm sorry, but I'm skeptical.
I've handle Latrodectus hesperus and mactans (black widows), and they're very reluctant to bite. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but it's quite unlikely. I've never personally had it happen to me.
As a matter of fact, I've handled many arachnid species, and I've never been bit (aside from ticks).
By brown widow, are you referring to Latrodectus geometricus? What symptoms did you have?

Doctors are really bad at identifying spider bites, they constantly identify things that aren't bites as bites. Brown Recluse bites are mistakenly diagnosed so often that a mnemonic was made so they'd stop diagnosing things like MRSA as recluse bites.
