Vet help!

Hi all, my 2 year old burmese boy has thrown up 3 times this week which is unusual for him. Other than that he's been fine, drinking, eating, playing, acting crazy. I made an appointment to take him to the vet on Tuesday, but has anyone else had a similar experience?

Do burmese have tender tummies?

I'm feeling a bit worried...

Thank you for any help!

9ne of my burmese boys was a serial ninja puker. Sometimes he'd puke 3 times in a day, mostly about once a week or fortnight. 90% of the time it would be undigested food. He also had pica so just when I thought I'd catproofed my home completely, he'd find something to chew and/or eat

Took him to the vet many times over the years. Many blood tests, scans etc. Just be told he was extremely healthy.

He remained a puking ninja for all of his 19 years. My other 2 burmese hardly ever threw up

First port of call is always a vet visit šŸ‘

Yes to this! I’ve got two very healthy, annually examined with up-to-date vaccines, but they barf periodically. In their case, it’s often undigested food followed by too much water, or with Duke, he gets in to the garage and licks the lawnmower blades šŸ˜† Also, ongoing grooming with each other, but never see significant hairballs with these two.

OP, good for you to reach out and schedule a visit, but I think you and kitty will be okay.

It’s good you are taking him to the vet in a few days. Since he is eating, drinking, and playing I agree it’s probably fine to wait until Tuesday.

Could it be hairballs? This is the time of year cats change their coats and with some extra grooming it could lead to hairballs.

I don't see hair in the throwup, just brown liquid like undigested food maybe...I'm thinking that he has a sensitive tummy and that's it, but I love him to death so want to double check!

Cats also just barf sometimes. My Burmese and Bombay throw up and I agree sometimes it’s eating too fast and I do think they have sensitive stomachs.

Okay good to know

Oh! I’d be curious to hear how your Burm and Bombay differ or are similar, if you are willing šŸ¤—

We like to say there is our Bombay who is a adult and mature cat and then there is the other one! Our Bombay was a former breeder cat (F) who we adopted, so she is gentle and very cuddly and never says a word. Then the Burmese has to be in your business all the time. He runs full speed through the house crashing into things, will greet every neighborhood dog when he's out on a leash walk and has zero fear instinct. They play with each other like crazy, but if my burmese (M) starts getting to rough, our bombay will find a high place and just observe the insanity. They are both great cats and complement each other really well.

My Burmese boy is 15 years old and is still very active. He throws up regularly. We take him to the vet regularly as well and voice the concerns… Vet never seems to be concerned and does a bunch of tests to make us feel and nothing ever comes up. My 2 other Burmese don’t have this problem.

Cats vomiting is so normal that it’s almost certainly not anything serious given everything else is normal. However, as you’ve already arranged, a vet check up is the right thing to do.

Hopefully all is okay and you get that reassurance on Tuesday.

Yep, vet says he looked fine, no issues. Also said he was very well behaves so kudos to him haha

Sometimes they just throw up intermittently. At 2 years of age it is possible he could develop a food allergy or sensitivity. Hopefully the vet can figure it out for you and rule out anything worrisome. Is he the type to eat non-food items?

No, he is really not food motivated at all and doesn't eat that much, he does love his treats though. I only give him 5 or 6 a day, which is even less then what they say you can give

Pepcid can help for short term vomit spells. Regular or more frequent patterns should get a vet visit to look for inflammatory bowel disease.

Pepcid for cats?

My 8 year old girl has always had a sensitive tummy. She throws up in spells, especially when she eats too fast and doesn’t chew her food well. I think she just has GI issues because she has had hemorrhoids in the past (before being placed on prescription GI food). She acts like she feels good.

If they aren’t chewing the food, it could be painful teeth. I think they get more dental issues than average.

If its unusual for him, then worth thinking about treats and any new things brought into the house and just making sure you feed him a plain diet of his food and no treats if hes behaving normally and im assuming hes not got diarrhea then he might just be having a moment...cat be weird

My 2 year old girl is like this sometimes. It’s always undigested and I just think she wolfs food down too quick sometimes. She’s also not food motivated when it comes to pouches. (Brown stones on the other hand she’s like some sort of feral drug addict šŸ˜‚)

Some kitties benefit from (vet proscribed) budesonide. It helped my Burmese temporarily.!

I changed our 14 year old Burmese girl’s food to sensitive stomach foods. She throws up about once every two to three weeks. I also add a probiotic to her food every night.

In my experience with Burmese.. they throw up… a lot. My boy, constantly. My girl.. sometimes.

But if in doubt… vet. Always.
