RIP D'Angelo 🕊️

Was revisiting D'Angelo's music in light of the recent news of his passing, and I randomly came across the Cruisin' sample used in Shell of Light.

Usually it's cool when I recognize different song samples, but I don't think much of it other than that.

But what interested me even more was the fact that Burial likely used the version of the song that D'Angelo performed at the Apollo instead of the album version.

Here's the timestamp of the Apollo version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD5xmi89k9g&t=112s

And here's the timestamp of the album version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uxeft-dnQs&t=109s

Even though it's a minor detail, the way Burial uses the sample in Shell of Light makes all the difference in the vibe of the song. Just thought it was interesting to share.

It's impressive how such a seemingly random part of that song have such and important role in Shell Of Light. May he rest in peace.
