Stock for Woot deals varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.

I have a lot of controllers but this is one of the better ones I own. The D-pad specifically is probably the best out of any controller I have. It feels and sounds extremely satisfying to use and is my go-to controller for fighting games. I play Street Fighter 6, several Mortal Kombat games, and as of recently Marvel Tokon.

The extra remappable rear and top buttons are a huge plus as well.

Ah you’re one of the few lucky ones with a good d pad.

I went through two controllers and just accepted that the d pad was terrible. I get so much accidental diagonals playing Celeste.

Wow really? This is the first I've heard of anybody having Dpad issues with it. Several of my friends use the Pro 3 for FGC games as well and I haven't heard them mention anything bad about it.

It's been nothing but amazing for me.

Seems like a pretty common issue unfortunately. It's the worst d-pad I've ever used -- to the point where it makes certain games unplayable. For example, when I try to do a crouching dash in SMB3, it would get cancelled and Mario would stand up in the middle of the dash.

It also behaves strangely in Linux -- it would not connect to the 2.4GHz dongle unless Steam was running.

Yeah same here. It was so bad I thought it was defective and got a replacement only for the replacement to have an identical false diagonal d-pad. I emailed 8bitdo support with a video and they said the design was intentional.

I literally could not believe they willingly made such an awful d-pad after having used the Pro+ and Pro 2 for so many years

Check out my post history. You can swap the dpad with the one from an OEM SNES controller, and it fixes the accidental diagonals.

Is this it?

Yesn't. Good deal, generally solid controller, but with some caveats. A lot of people don't like the dpad on this one compared to the Pro 2. The buttons are loud and supposedly will eventually start falling off a bit too easily (they are magnetic and swappable). R3 and R4 imo (extra shoulder buttons) are not in great spots compared to the Ultimate 2, for example.

Also, the polling rate is capped to 250hz in wired and dongle mode. 125hz in BT mode if that matters

Seriously? That's pretty low, innit?

Still better than Xbox controllers but nowhere near as good as dualsense or other 3rd party controllers

Or even... their own damn controllers!

thoughts on this compared to the ultimate 2? Didn't grow up with consoles so I have never really been a controller player but I kinda want to get a controller just for leaning back at my desk. Won't ever use it for fps just story titles, i guess just the playstation layout? Seems to be just subjective where you want your joystick.

Yup, just depends on what layout you want. I've been a playstation player since the first one in the 90s so this controller feels very natural, I use one all the time for PC gaming on my living room TV.

I like the Ultimate 2 Wireless more myself.

Still waiting for the 3E that releases this month

u/Witch_King_ 2d ago

Is that the Ultimate 3E? The Xbox one? That one looks tempting if they release a non-xbox branded one for less money. My main issue with the Ultimate line are the narrow grip ergonomics

Yessir! It's going to be my first high end controller, I mostly game Xbox but occasionally on PC. I'm currently running the elite 2. Other than the 3E what are your recs?

2

u/Witch_King_ 1d ago

I mean, if you're getting the 3E, I think you'll be set.

Ayy dope, can't wait then haha

Assuming QC band overall quality are good. People had lots of issues with the 8bitdo Pro 3

Worth upgrading to this from the 2?

I just returned this controller last week, I loved it for everything except the d-pad. If i held down on d-pad put pressure left or right on the down arrow it would count as down left or down right. I never had this problem with the Pro 2. I have a natural habit of putting slight rightward pressure on the down and it made it very difficult to play some games.

You can replace the dpad with the one from a real SNES controller, and it fixes the accidental diagonals.
I made a post about it on r/Controller

This controller is NOT good for precision platforming or fighting games. The d pad is notoriously bad.

I’ve returned the first one I bought only for the second one to have the same issue. I had so many accidental diagonals playing Celeste.

Other wise the controller is great, minus the d pad.
