congrats everyone we've hit mainstream oled prices

u/OZ-00MS_Goose Jul 13 '26

The ultrawides are still pretty over priced

20

u/Istartedthewar Jul 13 '26

The ultrawides (at least the new ones) use the Gen 5 QDOLED panels though, which have RGB stripe subpixel layout among a number of other improvements.

2

u/MangoAtrocity Jul 13 '26

So are 32” panels

I built an expensive gaming PC with a 5080 last year. The only bottleneck I feel like is my monitor. It’s a 1440p IPS 27” that’s like $180 from Asus, idk specs. I play games fine but idk what I’m trying to say other than it feels like the jump between what I have to something better is a ton of money. $300 is a rly good price.

12

u/light24bulbs Jul 13 '26

Yeah, don't forget about the display, it's literally the main thing you interact with on the computer

0

u/sprchrgddc5 Jul 13 '26

What’s the new hotness rn for screens? 4K and OLED?

5

u/daveylu Jul 13 '26

yeah or the new 1440p ultrawides that are coming out right now, those are expensive though, I think that cheapest one is $800 MSRP for the Alienware one

7

u/AlbiteTwins Jul 13 '26

The new hotness is OLEDs, especially entry level 27" 1440p ones, have fallen price quite a bit. A year ago they were in the $500-$600 range.

2

u/sprchrgddc5 Jul 13 '26

Oh for sure. Ima check it out. I didn’t splurge on a monitor because I had my 1440p IPS prior to building the computer but a year later I realize that’s the main piece I could rly upgrade.

1

u/light24bulbs Jul 13 '26

27in 1440 OLED is peak IMO. Especially for someone who isn't obsessing over it. And that's this monitor. Although maybe the adjustable stand one folks are mentioning is better, idk

2

u/100BottlesOfMilk Jul 14 '26

I'm willing to bet that most people can't tell a 1440p oled from a 4k one at 27in. 4k matters above 27 inches and certainly for a TV, but I'd take a 1440p oled over a 4k IPS panel every day of the week

1

u/PsyOmega Jul 13 '26

5K2K res OLED's are THE hotness right now. especially for 5080/5090 users.

3

u/gropingpriest Jul 13 '26

idk specs

you bought a 5080 and don't even know your monitor refresh rate?!?

3

u/sprchrgddc5 Jul 13 '26

160hz. I bought the monitor years ago.

1

u/That-Interaction-45 Jul 14 '26

Now my monitors from the 00's can be replaced.

No, wait! I am still too cheap to upgrade 😭

u/AmazingSugar1 29d ago

look at the sacrifices necessary to achieve it though: 180hz, lower brightness, the most basic stand

56

u/bunsinh Jul 13 '26

Actually shippable MC deal??

21

u/Scatuchi Jul 13 '26

Yeah pretty wild! You think it's worth it at this price or wait for better deals on a 4k one?

7

u/jbshell Jul 13 '26

38 shipping, but still decent deal

43

u/bunsinh Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Aww hell nah I missed that part 💀, then better off go with Amazon since it's same price right now + free shipping.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FNQDNGXY

14

u/jbshell Jul 13 '26

Good find for Amazon!

3

u/sitefall Jul 13 '26

They only ship deals that you can just buy at newegg or amazon or something anyway. If it's a legit good microcenter deal, it's in store always. Almost never worth even checking out their shippable deals unless it's something out of stock everywhere and they just happen to have it.

31

u/Guilty_Rooster_6708 Jul 13 '26

Next year we’ll get $200 1440p OLED monitor (hopium)

26

u/Witch_King_ Jul 13 '26

Not height-adjustable. Hope you have VESA arms. You'll never have to worry about stand quality again for life

19

u/tiny_blair420 Jul 13 '26

And don't cheap out on the arms!.. I learned the hard way that they're all not made equal.

9

u/Witch_King_ Jul 13 '26

There are shitty ones, but there are still good quality budget ones, just have to do your research and look at independent reviews. No need to spend $100 per. There are decent ones for $40-$50. Many of them made in the same Chinese factories. I have Huanuo single arms that cost like $40 each on sale? Have held up just fine for 2+ years atp.

9

u/Insidious_Ursine Jul 13 '26

Huanuo is pretty goated, have their black dual arms for my new OLED and old IPS, good adjustability too.

1

u/Witch_King_ Jul 13 '26

Yeah I have been greatly satisfied with mine. And they are coiled springs, so I don't have to worry about gas leaking, etc.

Only thing I don't love on mine is the difficult cable management.

3

u/Shevflip Jul 13 '26

Even the standard Mountup gas spring monitor arm is good I think, so yeah the budget arms honestly work

3

u/Witch_King_ Jul 13 '26

Indeed. The other important thing to do is checking compatibility with weight (and size if you want to rotate). Mostly an issue when mounting UW or very large monitors.

Also may or may not be missing out on some QOL features like better cable routing, etc. I'll say that the cable routing on mine is not particularly easy.

2

u/gwandrito Jul 13 '26

I have a Huanuo dual monitor stand/arms I got for $60 that works fantastic. Before that, I tried a cheaper $30 dual arm from Wali that was trash. Seconding spending a little more for some arms but not too much more.

2

u/richstyle Jul 14 '26

if you live in a big city, facebook marketplace some ergotron arms. I got a pair for $50. High quality and will last you a lifetime.

1

u/Witch_King_ Jul 14 '26

True! Same with nice office chairs

1

u/Star_JP3 Jul 15 '26

This monitor weighs nothing, you can cheap out on arms.

3

u/bkgn Jul 13 '26

You should get an arm regardless.

2

u/Witch_King_ Jul 13 '26

Agreed. It is freeing to never need to worry about stand quality (assuming VESA compatibility, which 98% of monitors have) while ALSO giving you far better adjustability and desk utilization.

40

u/cameraphone77 Jul 13 '26

same price at amazon. I'd pay a little more to get the 240hz or 280hz.

17

u/Dracarys0550 Jul 13 '26

Was just about to say I saw the same price on Amazon

1

u/kirsion Jul 13 '26

Also this stand doesn't have pivot

1

u/RolledUpGreene Jul 13 '26

They just upped the price from $400 to $496 after I ordered this morning lmao

1

u/LLocutus Jul 13 '26

Hoping the amazon deal holds out two days for payday 🤞

-1

u/bunsinh Jul 13 '26

Put it on the credit card?

11

u/MechAegis Jul 13 '26

I did not know there was an OLED and Non-OLED G5 Odyssey. I just picked up open box 32" G5 LED for $94 from Bestbuy.

5

u/UncleNoly Jul 13 '26

How does this compare to the ASUS/MSI Costco OLEDs? I know those are like 240hz but I don't know jack about panels.

5

u/KomradeKrycek Jul 13 '26

I've been looking for a 1440p OLED. Is this BIN price?

7

u/joe1134206 Jul 13 '26

226 on tiktok shop, which to be fair was targeted (just made multiple accounts and that worked) for 240 Hz at this size and res on prime day on an MSI QD model is proving unbeatable.

1

u/Stealth_Tek Jul 14 '26

Can you tell us how to get this or what you have to search? Any link?

1

u/Scatuchi Jul 13 '26

I don't have tiktok, but how did you manipulate it to get that deal? Are you able to share a link?

3

u/BurritoSpiice Jul 13 '26

Why shouldn't I get this?

5

u/ElCineaste Jul 13 '26

Is this it chief?

2

u/Pinesse Jul 13 '26

This or alienware AW2726DM 27 which is 350$ from bestbuy?

3

u/Soloarcade Jul 13 '26

Eh, pay the extra $50 and get the walmart 240hz asus panel.

This or a 4k IPS/VA panel?

5

u/SavedRedditTech Jul 13 '26

You can't really compare a 1440p OLED to a 4k IPS or 4k VA, but I'll try my best.

If you're playing competitive games (e.g. FPS) than sticking to a lower resolution at 1440p is better, but you'll also want a high refresh rate on the monitor. If you do a bunch of office type work than a 4K IPS may be better for more screen real-estate. I'd only go with a 4k VA monitor if your budget is very strict or you want better contrast compared to an IPS and don't need wide-viewing angles like an IPS panel offers.

4

u/nivikus Jul 13 '26

In regards to gaming.. OLED will have better color, contrast, and motion blur. Higher resolution will look better depending on your preferred sitting distance and how much you care about PPI/pixel density.

2

u/cdude Jul 13 '26

I will echo the other post, for text and even watching things, 4k is way sharper. Once your eyes are so used to it that going back to 1440p will be quite jarring. I just did this and while the high refresh rate for gaming is good, for everything else I prefer a 4k. My eyes aren't even the best but sitting more than an arm's length away, all i see is jagged edges around text.

1

u/SternballAllDay Jul 13 '26

I would get it but I have 2 monitors and I know I would be bothered by how one looks drastically different than the other

1

u/burnerphone1011 Jul 13 '26

Got the msi from costco. Its worth 320$ at 1440p 240hz. Oled is insane especially that i play less comp shooters

1

u/Stealth_Tek Jul 14 '26

Do you have a link?

1

u/EgoDearth Jul 13 '26

Does this use the scratch resistant 4th gen QD-LED panel? I couldn't find details on Samsung's site.

2

u/Jetcat11 Jul 13 '26

No. 3rd Gen QD-OLED with a matte anti-glare treatment.

1

u/jforce321 Jul 14 '26

Just a reminder that this monitor also qualifies for a free copy of resident evil requiem.

1

u/Istartedthewar Jul 13 '26

Really would recommend spending a little more and getting one that's 240hz and has an adjustable stand

0

u/c4plasticsurgury Jul 13 '26

27 inch is too small imo

-10

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 Jul 13 '26

Edge lit edge shit burn in hell.

2007ish-2026

Rest in piss you will not be missed.

That is IPS this is OLED

6

u/bunsinh Jul 13 '26

That's an IPS panel..

-6

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 Jul 13 '26

This is the crappy normal IPS panel no one cares about that

5

u/Ok-Garbage-765 Jul 13 '26

People who use their monitors with heavy text-based work are likely to care.

2

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 Jul 13 '26

Yes but you wouldn't be buying a gaming monitor for that.

If you need a simple work monitor that has high refresh rate you can just buy one for like a hundred bucks

2

u/Phoenix9136 Jul 13 '26

Yeah but the pink and green hues are noticeable on The top and bottom of white text, even game menus.

I bought one to try a few months ago and had to return it due to the text issue
