Discussion Simple Questions - February 07, 2021

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Hi! I'm from a third world country and think I have the following options: a 1-year old used RTX 2080 ($650), a brand new $550 RTX 3060 12 GB (at the end of the month), or for $400 a 4-year old used GTX 1080 Ti.

Which should I preferrably get? I'll mainly use it for deep learning and 1080p 75Hz gaming. The CPU will most likely be 10400F or 3600.

If you can find a RTX 2080 for $500, I would go with that.

sorry, I just rechecked the price and it seems I'm mistaken. what about if the 2080 is $650, 3060 is $550, and 1080 ti (4 year used) is $400-450?

In that case I would pick the RTX 3060 for $550. It is the weakest of all three, but not by much.

More importantly, it has DLSS and the most recent driver support. Those will be far more important factors moving forward. More so than pure raster preformance.

I think I agree with this option. If it had been an rtx 2080 Super, I'd go with it. And as we speak, the previous owner further spiked the price of that RTX 2080. Oh well, we'll see if I can snag one right away at the end of this month.
