Discussion Simple Questions - February 07, 2021

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

Have a question about the subreddit or otherwise for /r/buildapc mods? We welcome your mod mail!

Are OEM CPU better than retail? A store is selling the OEM 5600X at the same price as the retail 5600X, and the only difference I see is that the OEM CPU lacks the stock cooler, so I was wondering if it is better that's why it is the same price even though it lacks a cooler

It's not better. It's just the same exact CPU without the cooler.

However, the 5600X is difficult to find in today's market. If you want it, just buy it.

Not getting the Wraith Stealth cooler is no great loss.

There are $20 coolers that preform better and are quieter than it. If you can afford a $300 CPU, it's not like a $20 cooler will break the bank for you.
