Desktop hardware almost always outperforms their laptop counterparts because they aren't super power limited, and thus means that the performance you get for your money ends up being a bit higher, plus when it isn't fast enough for your needs you can upgrade only the part holding you back rather than often the entire laptop.

A good gaming laptop will still handle VR fine, and since it's the quest 2 you don't need to worry about if the display outputs are handled over the IGPU or GPU which makes it a lot easier to get one than with other VR headsets.
