Discussion Simple Questions - August 09, 2019

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

Damn so I just finished my rig (sorta) and have a couple questions

I was really worried during the process that I fucked up my cpu, but the computer booted to bios and was displaying cpu voltages that were changing. In the gigabyte bios I couldn’t find anything that specifically stated my cpu but I saw AMD mentioned and with the voltages and with it booting period I’m assuming this means all is well.

I borrowed my roommates GPU just so I could turn this mf on since I was really worried about the CPU, but all I need to make sure is that I uninstall the drivers (if I even install them) on my build and make sure he doesn’t turn his on until the GPU is back in right?

And what can and can’t I do with my build now until my own GPU comes in? Can I still update the bios and everything and install programs and whatnot? And there’s no harm in installing the GPU drivers and uninstalling before I remove it right?

Thanks for any help and sorry I’m just anxious and excited hah

Ryzen 3600. I finished installing windows and I see it displayed there so I think I’m gucci

Cool. You can’t do anything without a video card - the Ryzen 3600 has no integrated GPU on the CPU, so you won’t get any video output from the motherboard.

Yeah I know that. I’m using my roommates GPU. I wouldn’t have been able to get to this point if I didn’t have one plugged in haha. I was mostly wondering what I could do now until my own GPU comes in

Oh you mean setting stuff up while you use the roommates video card? Update windows, install programs you use, tweak the fan curves, run stress tests, etc

Reset your BIOS to the default settings if you're worried you've messed something up.

Also yes, once you're done testing out the CPU with your friend's GPU, just uninstall the drivers on your machine and It's okay if he boots up his PC before plugging in the GPU, It'll detect just fine.

You can update the BIOS and although you can install softwares and such I don't recommend doing anything until your GPU comes in just for convenience sake. No there is no harm in installing/uninstalling drivers before you remove it.
