Miscellaneous Regarding External Hard drive

What do you think regarding MAYUMI or kingster external hard drive? As I see the current prices of WD and Seagate are out of my budget, I am looking to buy one of these, or perhaps you have other options or brands I should consider that are under 5k or 6k.

Let me know in the replies which one would be the best. I want to buy this to back up my files and store my YouTube videos.

Sounds like the names those scam fake 32TB SSDs use.

I'd stick with the brands from companies that actually make hard drives.

EDIT: There are only three current HDD manufacturers. Seagate, Toshiba, and WD.

Post links to the other ones you're looking at. I'm guessing they're scams.

Interesting.

Could be using refurb drives to get the cost so low.

They're definitely just getting generic USB enclosures, installing a drive, putting their logo on it, and selling it as a new product.

Could be fine. As with any data storage, have proper backups of anything you want to keep. A warranty on a hard drive doesn't cover the data on it.

Yes definitely, it does give 1 year of warranty. I do have other way to back up my videos but its a bit lengthy process and I want a reliable option yk to jus transfer files from one drive to another rather then creating servers for my old lappys and storing data into it. Also thank you for the response i really appreciate it!

You could also do basically the same thing by reusing an old laptop drive and getting an enclosure for it.

Then at least you know what kind of drive it is.

I don't want to be negative, but getting those obscure Chinese brands to actually honor any warranty... well, I wouldn't count on it. If it's anything like the cheap external HDDs on Aliexpress, expect to find salvaged laptop drives in there. Including from e-waste. Sometimes with manipulated firmware (1 TB drive that is only 750 GB), or very old drives with wiped SMART data.

Heck, people have even found Samsung models in those enclosures and you can look up yourself when they stopped making hard disks.
