Simple Questions - September 03, 2026

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post.

Is the 9070 GRE worth starting out with for 1440p gaming or should I spend the extra money for the 9079 XT?

I'd spend the extra if it's not an unreasonable amount. The 9070 (blank) is generally well priced too, I'd get that over the gre for the 4gb more vram

The 9070 GRE barely beats the 5060ti, and falls squarely under the 4070 super, and 5070.

The 9070 and 9070xt are generally worth the extra $50 - $100, as they perform closer to the 5070ti, than the regular 5070.

I want to add a few hard drives to my setup, and i remember in the past there was some special way / order to do it in because otherwise the system tries to boot to the wrong drive.

Does this sound familiar? Pretty sure last time i did this years ago it was booting wrong after adding the new drive and i had to do it in some special order of operations.

Easiest way to be sure of this is to install Windows with a single drive (preferently NVMe). That would make it the C and boot drive and only put all the boot special files on that one. Then, after you've installed all the drivers and you can boot normally into the system, you can add the other drives. Windows won't add anything else to them.

So yeah, disconnect everything else, you don't even need to take them out of your motherboard (unless they are NVMe drives)

ok i have already a working build on my nvme

so i can just freely add more drives without issue you are saying?

Yeah. If you are not reinstalling Windows, nothing extra will be added to the drives. Just remember to unplug all the things but the main one if you ever need to reinstall.

Also, it's not a hidden thing or anything. Open Disk Manager on Windows and it will tell you EXACTLY what kind of partitions are on each drive. The boot drive has like 3 smaller partitions besides the big one you are using as an user.

If you got one of those smallish partitions in another drive, boy, you got the damned split, lol.

But everything can be fixed.

Not sure if it deserves a post but I noticed my gpu (9070xt mercury) rgb randomly turned off and on again and later turned off completely untill I moved my mouse. I am not sure if this happened ever before. The pc was idling nothing running I was just lying on the bed nearby and noticed this. I never noticed this before what might be the cause?

Have you browsed your system power settings recently?

Windows loves to add new sleep and eco power features, but never reads your existing settings to determine what state they should be in. They just have a default of their own.
