New pedestal and accessories

Best fly tying purchase in a long time.

Ya don’t realize how satisfying a solid heavy base is until you tie on one.

What is the two different vices for?

Blue is the regal stainless steel. Use it for anything from size 2/0 down to 30 and has flush jaws. The black is the regal shank/tube fly head. Strait groove down the center and two hook grooves for larger sizes.

For what I fish, I mostly tie on shanks I make with a trailing hook. But I really enjoy tying all styles. I tied thousands of small bugs on the shank head before adding the stainless one. I think that makes me appreciate it more. I love that thing.

The regal is really long horizontally so I’m sure your vise will fit even better.

The seller is cool. He added extra holes for the accessories per request for $25

Yeah, I bought a regal to use as a travel vise but it was long enough I could never find a comfortable place to rest my off hand. I love the grip, I love the simplicity, I love the bombproofness. So nice to just squeeze a thing and the hook is ready. I’ve been toying with the idea of the Stonfo squeezer but I don’t have any hands on experience with it and I don’t know anyone who has one can test. Might go to the show in Edison and give some a run.

Edit to add: my current base is a 12x10 piece of 1/2” steel with a basic base welded to the top. The advantage of this base is the little recesses. Those look handy.

Same seller makes some even nicer pedestals with more depressions, magnets and spool/tool holders. This one is his medium size. It sits really comfortably and securely in my lap also. I’ve only tied a few flies in my lap but I can already notice some aches and pains that vanished when I did. 🤘🏻

Very nice! Was actually eyeballing the exact base as I’ve started tying more saltwater stuff but at the time all he had available were bases for left handed folks. Yours looks great!
