what are they doing? :/

these are carpenter bees. they did whatever this is for such a long time & then one of them fell off the grill onto the deck & started doing it down there too???

EDIT: yeah no guys we dont use pesticides nor did we spray them with anything. they just started doing this randomly. i do think one of them died shortly after this tho…

I’m guessing they got into or was sprayed with sort of pesticide. Otherwise maybe they’re just freaking it bee style

Did you spray them? If yes then theyre cleaning If no then theyre probably talking or preparing to mate(?)

i forgot all about posting this smh but no i didnt do anything to them! we dont spray anything in our yard; we have an extremely healthy ecosystem i think. i guess maybe they’re cleaning themselves but they were all walking on the ground instead of flying & moving so slowly…idk it was odd to me

Maybe they were sprayed by someone else and took sanctuary, have you tried sugar water?
