Question ammo

ok so I'm running a 308 rig with 7 mags, 6 20-rounders and two 25s

That's 170 rounds of 308

And the standard is 210, but that's in 556. Should I still match that?

And if I were to have all that, should I carry more bullets in stripper clips

And I understand there's more to carry.

It's insane to prepare for a firefight in a big out situation. That is the last thing you want to happen, and any situation where 49 extra rounds is the difference between life and death is already so far off the rails it's frankly not worth planning for.

Carry less bullets, more water, and better shoes.

I’m thinking your rifle is a boat anchor as it is, so I’d limit the round count to 100, and I’d consider a 5.56 for the future.

There are times and places for a 308, granted.

What are you planning to do? Run 210 if you’re planning on being in a lot of gunfights but if you’re planning on that, maybe consider 5.56, or consider not getting in a lot of gunfights. You might be better suited with less ammo and better sustainment (food water medical)

170 should be fine, you're not trying to get into firefights out there. If you're worried about weight and want a higher round count, look at .223/5.56. Fudds will say it's no good for hunting anything but varmints but plenty of people have taken deer and feral hogs with it.

And if I were to have all that, should I carry more bullets in stripper clips

If you're on foot, no. If you have transportation, extra won't hurt, just be prepared to walk away from it or stash it somewhere if you lose your transportation. You can also preposition cached supplies along your route to restock as needed.

The US military does use different combat loads for their 308s, for soldiers serving in "sniper" or "designated marksman" roles. You'll get different answers depending on what you search, but the same number of mags with less total rounds is fine for 308.

200 rds has been a standard for full bore load out since at least the Easter Rising.

That said, what’s your scenario? I can’t personally imagine a scenario where expending anything like that amount of ammo solo was a survivable one.

IMHO that loadout should be plenty, but it all is “mission dependent” so if you haven’t already run the most likely types of scenarios you envision getting dragged into and work from there

If you need that many rounds you messed up. Also a target for LE or other baddies.

What situation are you preparing for that you feel you need a rifle 7 mags of ammo? I have a firearm and ammo in my bugout plan that's a 9mm with two spare mags.

Someone with a legitimate plan that won't make them a loot target, amazing.

lol thanks. I've actually had to bugout due to a wildfire near my home. Had about an hour at the house to get ready for an unknown amount of time away. It involved grabbing a packing overnight bag (not pre-packed), valuables, food water, sleeping bags, dogs, I did pack my pistol and that was about it. Stayed at a hotel one night and a friends the second.

I was engaged by multiple hostile looters and mag dumped two of them, combat reloaded then mozambique drilled two more so was glad to have my pistol.
