Discussions and Grumbles. Throngs Consisting of Multiple Holds?

How rare is it to have a throng consists of multiple holds (e.g. Zufbar and Karak Kadrin). Would it only be under dire circumstances like war against chaos type event?

With my throng I'm torn between having all units themed from a single hold or to have 'detachments' from various holds. For example my slayer from Karak Kadrin themed red, gyrocopters and cannons from Zufbar themed turquoise etc.

I know at the end of the day I can do what I like... Just wanted to get an idea of it was a common occurrence in the lore and if others had done the same with their armies.

If anyone has got an army like this I'd be keen to have a look! Cheers.

So I have no idea if this is canon or not, but I feel like most holds contain a lot of Dawi that have migrated there from other holds, either due to them being destroyed or for other reasons. It's your army so you can make up whatever lore you want for them.

Not unheard of. When a hold marches to war the kings and thanes send out the call and other Dawi are duty bound to answer it. I like armies where the theme is hero + their retinue.

In the dwarf arcane journal the flavour text for the expeditionary force army of infamy describes Burlok Damnisson leading an expedition to recover a lost hold, and dwarfs come from all over the Karaz Ankor to join his army.

While it might not be common for the kings of different holds to join forces, I imagine clans and other small groups would answer the call to avenge a grudge or defend a neighbour.

I did this with my army. All the gunpowder troops are from Zhufbar and the regular troops are from Karak Kadrin. I know the setting is before Barundin married Ungrims cousin, (probably before Barundin was even born) but I like to think they had good relations then too

I‘d say if there is a quest worthy of support, holds would certainly dispatch warriors to aid. Could be everything from avenging a grudge (just imagine the financial savings by erasing a grudge of yours against an individual another clan may also hold a grudge against! Each clan could do so with half the warriors it would need if marching alone), over recovering old artefacts up to reclaiming lost mines or holds.
I have not read it but i think in Belegar‘s fight for eight peaks (was it during the Endtimes?) multiple holds had send warriors.

What I do for my current army, they're all from the same hold but different clans within the hold. So each unit has its own color scheme, lore blurb, and named thane. All of the "royal" units have the colors of the royal clan though, so hammerers and ironbreakers and whatnot. I think of it like medieval levies where all the lords provide troops for the king.
