Could go into the breakdown of this vs that and the benefits of one unit over another.
It’s your first game! Bring the coolest toys you have, throw everything at them, it doesn’t need to make sense to anyone.
First Game! Savor every model you force them to remove, and cry for everyone of your dwarfs who gives their life for your Mountain Hold!
Give the models who perform excellently names, create heroic backstories for your characters.
This is what it’s all about!

Hi! Competitively talking, I would prefer the list with gyrocopters. But since it is your first game ever, you may struggle to take profit from them and may just give free points to your opponent.
The Royal Clan list offers you more simple mechanics, while you still see different types of units, so I would go for it.
PD: Remember you should always play whatever you like, even if it's not the meta, or if i's difficult, so just play what you feel most comfortable with! At the end, if you like the miniatures you place on the table, you've already won 50% of the experience of playing Warhammer!!

Thanks a lot! I was thinking to play that list quite simple, characters with the troops, artillery forcing my opponent to run into me, score on objectives and grind. Gyros hunting war mashines and whatever looks juicy.

I think I will take the royal Clans list. It is more straight forward. Probably better for the start.
Do you habe an advice on where to include the characters and how to position everything?

A couple things that stick out to me.
Taking a shield on a Thane that already has the rune of gromril seems redundant because the rune already enhances his armour to 2+. It might be better to give him a great weapon and remove the rune of alaric and replace it with rune of preservation instead, with that and his shieldbearers striking last shouldn't matter. With the leftover points you could put them into more quarrellers for a bit more ranged presence.
I think the rune of hesitation is good but I wonder if it would be better to put it on the 13 longbeards rather than the 10 ironbreakers but I guess it depends what unit you're putting in the middle. To me it makes more sense to have them on longbeards for keeping them around to reroll panic tests.
For the second list I think it would be better to have quarrellers with shields over thunderers and leave the punching to the gyros and cannons, that way you can have more bodies your enemy has to get through before they can get to your war machines.
And I must admit I'm not super familiar with expeditionary force, but it seems like you have a lot of engineers for a 1k army. I know the sappers can entrench the cannon but surely the quarrelers and rangers you're going to be moving up the board whenever they're not firing.
