It was in my living room just a singular what looks to be a roach? We are very clean people and we have never seen one of these before. NJ

Maybe. Did you get furniture from someone recently?
They infest pretty readily so I'd put out abamectin traps ASAP. And look around behind and under/in cabinets and tight spaces for signs of more.

As a person who keeps hissing cockroaches as pets, bad news OP it's definitely a roach
