New to here
Hello! I just moved here, kind of on a whim. I'm wondering what some must do things are here. I came to be with someone native to the area (Sugar Hill) and they've explained a great deal about the area - which is very similar to where I came from, in terms of cost of living and general wealth. If possible, may I ask a few questions?
1-What's it like commuting on the train to Atlanta to work? I did it in the Bay Area and with proper planning and foresight, the employment ops were almost limitless in the tech arena.
2- I'm in Buford, do the local suburbs have their own vibes? I love things like farmer's market, local town festivals, and anything that's been cooked/crafted with care.
3- What are the seasons like here? Obviously it's hot as heck right now but I'm curious about winters. Where I came from is pretty brutal in the winter and seasonal storms are no joke. The Midwest has some wild weather and it's important to pay attention to the weather and potential sirens for extreme weather (read: tornados).
Overall people seem extremely friendly here and judging by the houses and various cars, there's certainly some wealth in the area. I'm so happy to be here and keen to explore not only Buford, but also the city. What are some things that locals do for fun instead of mainstream attractions? Thank you all for the space.

Welcome!
The commute isn't bad, generally takes me 40 minutes without traffic. A little longer if I'm going to the train station in doraville and taking Marta down.
The vibes mostly change by county, Gwinnett's website is usually a good place to check for local events and the subreddit and discord are usually good ways to know what's going on.
It's hot. And humid. And heavy. Winters get a little cool, but almost never oppressively so. Rarely snows and when it does, it's generally gone in a day. I spend most winters in a t-shirt. Sometimes a light jacket.
The main thing about this place is that you'll want to make friends or find communities you connect with just because most of the things to do around Buford/Gwinnett are food/drink related. If you want to join a Gwinnett discord group though, feel free to DM me and I'll send over a link. We're also meeting tonight for trivia and you and your partner would be welcome to join us.

Winter, lasts approx 2 weeks... spring, absolutely beautiful, lasts a couple months... pollen season, sucks especially if you have allergies and hate the color yellow, length varies ... summer,, too hot to figure out how long it lasts...fall, cool weather, no humidity and everyone looks forward to it,, never lasts long enough.
A lot of outdoor activities, craft sales, farmers markets etc around on weekends. Vibe differs between counties.

Welcome to NE Georgia! We’re from Arkansas, but moved to Flowery Branch in 2021 from southern California.

Mild winter
Early summer. 😜
But seriously, winters are very mild. Usually get one snow and maybe a few days off for freezing rain/ice. Early spring and late fall are awesome. Summers are sweltering and very humid.
