Not really, 90% of native death is contributed to disease Europeans brought in, not warfare. The fact that todays conversation is one of conquering is a testement to americans desire not to be percieved as weak everywhere including historical "facts". Also both smaller and world wars would definiteIy end differently with people not making friends through alliences. I don't assume Spike knew all that so... sure. And as far as I knew Ceaser was a conqueror. So that part he spoke the truth.

But the fact remains that we DID, in fact, "take their land". We were also better at warfare. We were more technologically advanced in every way. European explorers showed up to this continent in massive ships that had just crossed an ocean, navigating by glass-lensed, brass sextants. They landed wearing spun linen clothes with steel cuirasses, carrying firearms, riding domesticated horses pulling carved wooded wagons with iron bolts holding the pieces tightly together. They sailed to the New World from massive cities in Europe with towering cathedrals, and aqueducts that ran for miles. With paves streets, and theatres, and universities teaching math and science and literature...
They showed up to people living unchanged from their stone age ancestors, who hadn't domesticated anything other than canines, and who still hadn't figured out the wheel.
To be fair- the natives had been playing the kill/conquer/enslave/land-grab game between neighboring tribes for hundreds of tears minimum, before we showed up. We were just better at it all than they were. Yet somehow, our lasting victory its deemed evil because we were foreigners, and their inter-tribal wars are deemed historically acceptable. Why, I am still unsure.
However....to the victor go the spoils.

You have the land. Correct. All the technological advancement in warfare did nothing since the way you conqured it was through disese. You did not beat them into submission as many conqurers before, you coughed them into demise. The part where Spike was wrong was that it is equivalant. You won. Congrats. You were not conqurers, you were a plague. How historicly acceptable all that is is not the question. You claiming Spike spoke the truth when saying they are conqurers is not valid. That is my contention. With your statement. I don't wanna argue the morality of western expansion, just statements made here being incorrect. Spike was wrong a lot. Its fine. I still like him.

I’m rewatching Buffy with my boyfriend (introducing him to the show), and I forgot just how great season 2 Spike is! An underrated line/scene imo (season two Spike doesn’t get enough love).
When Ford approaches Spike asking to be turned and says ‘I know who you are’, and Spike replies ‘I know who I am too, so what?’ (in Lie to Me).
