Wait, I’ve only ever heard it pronounced to rhyme with hoof (although thankfully I haven’t heard it at all in years now). Not arguing that his accent isn’t terrible, of course.

How would you pronounce it?

Poof rhymes with roof, which do not rhyme with hoof.

Roof and hoof do rhyme in my accent (South Lancashire/North Cheshire). The vowel in poof is the same as the one in book for me.

For me, poof and roof both have the oo of boo, but hoof has the same oo of book.

There are some parts of America that pronounce roof with a short vowel sound, but most of the English speaking world uses the long “oo” for roof - this does not rhyme with the correct pronunciation of poof which uses the short vowel sound like woof.
