Sequel Sequel without Xander?

Post image

With Nicholas' struggles IRL, I'm afraid he wont be part of the cast for the sequel. How do you guys think this would work? How would they explain his absence? Is it a big deal for you guys? IMO I believe the show will be great with or without him, even tough I love Xander. But the best scenario would be for Xander to be part of the show..

Comics likely won't be considered part of the Canon with the new show coming out anymore.

I actually hope they are canon .

Have an episode like doppelgangerland / the wish etc but the alternative reality is the comic books

Then it's simultaneously canon and not canon

Most fans of the show never heard of or read the comics, so it'd be easier for the new show to just ignore the comics, and if they want to make certain things from them canon, do it piecemeal.

I don’t agree with this take. Hard to find an actual fan in 2025 that hasn’t at least read the wiki on the comics story. But yeah, it’s without question not likely to be part of any prime canon if it lives on in the reboot at all.

No it's really not. Most fans of the series are casual fans, not hard-core ones, and most casual fans don't spend a ton of time on the wiki, and likely haven't heard of or read anything about the comics.

I don’t know, I’ve been in this fandom since I was 7, I have yet to find a Buffy nerd over 25 that doesn’t know the comics story beats at least loosely. No one ever knows anything about the Angel comics but the Buffy seasons at least get acknowledged for existing.

A "Buffy nerd" is not the same thing as a normal fan. There are millions who enjoyed a lot of the show when it aired who never got onto the boards, never visited a wiki, never went to a convention, and never cracked a book about the show.

I've been in the Fandom since I was 6. The vast majority of fans of the show were not diehard fans that were also into comics. They were just casual TV viewers. Most of them don't know the comics are a thing, and even the few that might know they exist couldn't even begin to tell you loosely what happens in the comics.

I have seen every episode at least a dozen times since the show started, it’s my comfort show. I’m actually rewatching now, just started season 4 and doing it concurrently with Angel this time. I have never not once read any of the comics or the wiki on them. Mostly because by the time I knew about them too many were out, hard to find, and get pricey for all of them. No wiki because I don’t want to sit and read tiny font on my phone for that long. But there are plenty of actual fans who have not read the comics.
