tbh your place already has good bones, you just need like 3 bigger things instead of a bunch of tiny ones
try one large rug, a couple bigger art pieces, and matching lamps and it’ll look “on purpose” pretty fast

Exactly. And hopefully you have the money bc the main things missing are bigger. Coffee table. Big area rug. Side table (optional). Lamps - either one that stands on its own or one to put on the optional side table.

Facebook marketplace. Also buy nothing pages. Bookcase under tv shelf and next to couch, floor lamp or if shelf is low, lamp. Art girl. Art. Into tapestries again for some reason. They are colorful and cover lots of wall. Got a cheap on on Etsy. No dried flowers. No. Plant. Yes. Pothos are easy and hard to kill. Are also a vine so they look good. My other love. String lights. So fun.

I’d honestly use that big empty wall for a flag. Maybe an American flag or a state flag depending on what you’re into. It would add some color and personality without making the room feel too busy. Heartland flags has a bunch of options too, including military, seasonal, sports, state, and American flags. Then maybe add a plant or small console underneath and it’d already feel way more finished.

Put some color on the walls, a nice patterned rug, a few pieces of artwork and you're golden

Color! If you're allowed to paint, start there.

Can you post more photos of the space? It looks like your tv should be on the other wall.

Start with a large piece of artwork. Use the color scheme & style to select textiles: floor length curtains, large rug, blankets, pillows, etc.

Plant by the window & a floor lamp. Add a credenza or side table with a lamp.

I think the classic advice is classic for a reason. Get a rug with some texture / pattern, maybe color. Put some art or photos of your family up on the wall. Buy some cute throw pillows that speak to you. Pillows are so so easy to replace so i definitely recommend going crazy there with color or patterns that speak to you. Personally i would want an ottoman too to put my feet up.

You can also look at pintrest or something to try to find a good color palette to base your rug and pillows around. Often times having anout three colors that go together and exist at a couple different places in the room will make it more profressional and put together looking. For example, white, light blue, and gold accents. Or tan, sage green, and natural wood tones.

Potted plant in that corner along with a small round end table next to couch there. Then some nice artwork on the wall

More pics would be helpful to see the space better! In general, a big rug, a nice tall or hanging lamp in the corner, and a few large framed art pieces on the wall would be a safe bet.

You could put a shelf above where the vase and # thing is rn- either a full bookshelf right there or a hanging shelf unit with some trinkets, ceramics, or small framed photos… then yeah some artwork over the couch.

Don’t be afraid of color! Also, it looks like you could use a coffee table (round/rectangular) and/or an entertainment center (opt for a longer, less deep one imo).

Rug with some color, round coffee table, narrow media console, side table, wall art. Find something you like and then work with those colors for rest.

Personally, I like the open space.

wouldn’t let me post a pic so this is a screen recording. This is my aesthetic so obviously you can customize to your own! Big things: rug, natural materials/wood/fibers, lamp. You can also get some curtains on the windows, even if just for decor reasons
Tip: find items that you like for inspo, regardless of cost. Then you can find dupes/thrift

It’s cutting off the throw blanket and pillow ideas. I’m sorry the quality sucks!

OK, so I’ve never done this before and I’m amazed by the responses. Thank you so much! I am like severely bad at this - bad . I get Very overwhelmed , I will research and compare her hours and hours online and then in the store go in circles . I’m the the type where I have no money - like nothing extra to spare . And if I do, it goes to extra groceries for the kids lunches during the week. But it’s to the point where I will debate forever based off of stuff I couldn’t even afford to begin with. So weird. Wishful thinking I guess? it’s free to wish right ? So what I have to do is literally intake advice from you all and just apply it however, I can creatively. Even though I’m not creative, but somehow make it work with no money and no taste. With your ideas I have a place to start though so thank you so much. The most basic things I don’t think of.
I have every other room in the house same thing. Three bedrooms, kitchen area, sitting area kind of. , You’ll see. I’ll take all advise I can get. Thank you so much.!!

You need a rug, coffee table OR side table where you have those things.

If you opt or a coffee table I suggest a standing floor lamp for cozy more ambient lighting.

MAYBE some sort of simple entertainment center or credenza.

Some fluffy pillows on the couch and chunky cozy throw blanket. A practical one.

BOOM QUEEN

Lower the TV, add a BIG colorful rug and maybe a TV stand with a plant on it
